What's wrong with playing underage characters in smut though? Teenagers have sex with other teenagers?
there's nothing wrong. there are just some really pearl clutchy people out there that think that since most of us are 20+, we're creepy and playing out pedo shit to get our rocks off, even if it's two 17 or two 16 year olds.
IDK I really doubt that's the case and I think they're gone for good (barring Ragnar or the culprit hallucinating them or whatever), but I hope you're right if only because holy hell what a terrible "arc" they've had all season. And if this episode was meant to resolve the issues they've dealt with for literally the entire series, it was super fast and sloppy.

it's the deaths that are making me sort of side eye. siggy dying made no sense and kevin's char coming in, fucking ragnar's wife, then hieing off again also made no sense. i'm sort of hoping all these flailing loose ends tie together closer to the end.

It depends what you mean by teenagers and what you mean by smut.
16-year-olds having sex with other 16-year-olds is fine.
13-year-olds being violently raped by adults, on the other hand... yeah, in theory, fiction =/= reality, but in practice everyone I've ever met who's been into stuff like this has been awkward and creepy.
There's also a difference between a teenage character in a show geared at teens or adults and a teenage (or even younger) character from a show geared towards small children. Most people I've met who've been into smut with characters from shows for really young children have been weird, too.

90% of my answer to if they are a neckbeard hinges on the answer to the following question: what would their reaction be to finding out the player they are threading with is also a guy?
nah. i just think that kind of mild "just my luck" dismay at activity timing is normal and would not be pasted here if it hadn't been written by someone you have a hateboner for. you're reading it with bias against the writer and i'm not.

yeah but why do you want to roleplay teens having sex with other teens? why do you want to fap/schlick to teenagers having sex? you're still putting yourself in the position to visualize teenagers having sex and get off to it.
i can maybe see it if you're playing out a ship and you want to explore how having sex would alter the relationship (although even then i don't get why you can't just ftb, though).

also lbr plenty of female players get side-eyed for all kinds of things all the time. rpers are judgmental and no matter who you are you will probably get the side-eye at some point. that's not the same thing as the kind of dedicated wanking campaign that true creeps inspire.

The point is that presumably the player is an adult (lbr most people rp smut to get off it, and most rpers are aging.)
