The problem with wankgate is that a chunk of the audience isn't here to vent. They come to seek out gossip to entertain themselves And aim to shame people whose opinions they don't share, such as shipping, characterizations, or apps. The most recent thread here is a great example. While most is civil, there are plenty that popped up solely to due to mob mentality and to dismiss other opinions as stupid.
More people need to learn the difference between venting and shaming, and leave Wankgate for the good juicy wank. It has become a little better since the new rules, but we've got a long way to go.
On the other hand, I assume most of those who frequent here are shit at socialization and as such they can't ramble and vent properly to their friends like normal people do.
