I'm not saying it's not for kids, you fuckstick without a brain. I'm saying there's absolutely shit in there that can be played with for darker themes that were put in there for adults since GameFreak isn't fucking stupid.

they weren't put there "for adults". they were put there for the intended, target audience. thinking it's there for you is part of the problem.

Even so, why can't it be played with? These are all themes that exist within the canon whether you want them to or not. The impending apocalypse is a recurring trope within pokemon canon, so what's the harm with playing with the idea of the apocalypse actually happening? Pokemon abuse has been a recurring theme within canon since the beginning (Ash's charmander, anyone?) so why can't adults play with those themes? It's not like these things are never brought up and people are reading too much into it.

GameFreak knows that the kids that played the first gen of pokemon are all grown up now and still playing, anyway, or there wouldn't be so many millenials in the Pokemon Go trailer. I doubt any of the developers would be shocked or dismayed by the premise of the pokemon rp.

and i doubt they're surprised or shocked that adults still play pokemon considering they sell official pokemon art prints at $250

i highly doubt that the intended target audience for these are kids especially when they also sell $100+ leather bags

pokemon is 20 years old and they've recognized that their original demographic have grown up and still enjoy pokemon, while the series still appeals to a new school-aged demographic

it can totally be played with, but just like all kinds of other kid-oriented media that adults may also enjoy, it can come across as really, really immature and tryhard when it's taken to some sort of grimdark extreme. (Fallout: Equestria anyone?) Adults can actually go and engage with adult canons that genuinely explore themes of war and horror and loss and whatever the fuck else. But there are a lot of people in fandom that seem, for lack of a better word, stunted in the media they consume, and only stick to stuff aimed at a younger demographic... and then just go shove all this mature stuff in there where it may or may not necessarily fit, or work, or be tasteful, when it comes time to producing fanworks or justifying why they like the stuff in the first place.

I grew up with Pokemon and I still like it, and I enjoy those bits of complexity that the world has. But some people way overshoot the mark when it comes to the "mature" themes to be found in it, and that's what everyone's been complaining about.

I agree with you for the original topic of putting Kirby in a torture porn game, but has Brave New World actually overshot, like you're talking about? I don't play there, but from the premise it looks like it's using the Pokemon vs Man and the apocalypse as a backdrop for exploring the world of Pokemon and uncovering its secrets, like in the normal canon. There are ways to play with these complexities without going full Nolanverse grimdark, and that's what I'm arguing for.

honestly, i don't think brave new world is any more "dark" than the main villain of x/y trying to commit genocide
