since we're shitposting about anime tonight, can someone tell me why people who play the protagonist from one punch man are so obnoxious? every time i've seen one in a game there's always been a permissions post that was just an excuse to masturbate over how unbeatable he is and how that's soooo important to his character you guys.
Saitama's personality is entirely defined by the fact that he can't find a challenge anywhere, if he were to actually beat someone he would go completely in another direction from canon in a way that makes him impossible to bring back and sort of changes the law of how his power works. If you're canon blind that probably sounds really masturbatory and smug but it's the whole setup for the manga, and without that consistency Saitama doesn't exist in the same way and everything that happens in the manga is rendered irrelevant.
It also raises difficult questions and bullshit about power levels if someone is allowed to beat him, because if X beats him surely Y can too, etc, and soon you're not playing One Punch Man as One Punch Man. The best way to avoid it is to make clear that Saitama's beyond power levels and he's an unwinnable fight by his canon's logic.

his power set IS really important to his character, but tbqh that's exactly why he doesn't belong in games and i wish more people would realize this. some characters are just not a good fit for dwrp and he's one of them. i enjoy the series but it's only ever played from for the sake of stupid one-sided yaoi anyway so i fail to even see the point of doing so.

I've never been made to feel more isolated or disliked than when I played in a mostly LA and LAPB game even though my character was mellow and friendly. I don't know if that's just the media divide manifesting in some other form tbh, rather than any evidence of difference in approach.
If I observe other people's threads on bakerstreet the only difference I'd identify is weeaboo canons are more energetic and LA canons are more melodramatic. They're both still exaggerated theatrical versions of reality.

sometimes i wish there was a subset of DWRP that wasn't so concerned with the morals of fictional characters or the series they belong to. it's kind of a bummer having to stick with likeminded psl partners because the larger group of people don't have a 100% solid reality/fiction divide.
i don't mind that there are guidelines and etiquette in place to benefit players who tend to be more sensitive. i just wish the hobby was big enough for a group alongside that one, so people who don't give a fuck could have their gross/disgusting/problematic/etc fun without worrying.

darker than black honestly isn't that great though. it's remarkably average and i'd hesitate to call any of the characters good.
tbh i think this could go for any main character similar to this? think of any naruto, goku, winchesters, buffy, so on. any character that is in their universe the coolest and strongest tends to attract those kinds of players, even if the characters themselves wouldn't be butt mad or would enjoy a challenge. just look at all the screaming about nerfing powers or even cutting back on them. you can make a character that's all about powers interesting, but what attracts most of the people who play them are their status and not the potential otherwise.
