TBF, batman didn't always blamed jason and equally blamed himself on it. he never really got over it properly.

but let's not forget that the head writer of that time hated Robin too. throwing out the rumours that the vote was rigged, the truth is that Jim Starlin hated robin/jason todd with a passion. he kept bringing up the idea of his death. and when that didn't fly he tried to give him AIDS. because yeah, that's cool.

and let's not forget what paul levitz said on the subject of robin's death. "We didn’t have a bias as to whether Jason would live or die, but I think a lot of the creative people weren’t disappointed that he got to get killed. "

someone explain to me how this is fair

(Anonymous) 2016-07-27 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
it was fair because you wrote a shitty app

don't write shitty apps next time

anon, you have to be deliberately blind to not catch the implication that she was raped.

in fact, a lot of this tells me you're being deliberately blind. I never said what happened to Jason Todd wasn't terrible, but the context of what happened to the characters is ultimately what makes them different. yes, the "cripple the bitch" thing makes a lot of difference. you are being willfully blind if you can't see how that makes them different, and how the cultural context these comics were created in changes things.

if comics existed in a vacuum that exists apart from the real world, then you might have a point, but these fictional stories are created by real people living in a real world with real opinions informed by a real culture.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-27 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
to be fair to anon, if the mods thought part c was also shitty, as well as a and b, why didn't they say anything?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-27 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
what happened in the jason todd situation was terrible, and to say one is worse than the other is dumb, but to say they're equal is spectacularly dumb, especially when the anon they replied to wasn't even trying to say what happened to todd was okay or normal.

>> here is a group of people that want a thing

Ignoring the fact I don't think Niantic/the Pokemon Company ever intended the character to be NB, if they did, that is not exploitation. That is catering to an underserved demographic. Kind of the opposite of exploitation, if anything.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-27 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
it's basically a way to weed out a player they don't want. that, or they had different eyes looking over it and made different calls. most places will outright reject you if you have more than two sections that need work, so it sounds like if a b and c were fucked up, you would have been rejected anyway.

so because something shitty happened to this male character, we should just stop talking about the concept of fridging entirely.

alright.

they're both bad in their own way, but they're not unilaterally compatible, and to force that comparison misses the entire reason why either were bad.

App mod here. From the sounds of it, your whole application had problems, and the mods were less than impressed how you handled your revision (which is basically our way of being nice and giving you a chance anyway). They probably didn't have much faith in you to fix the rest.

Sorry, but it really does sound like the app was just crap. That's the way it goes.

Does it matter that the male character in question was also a child?

I know you guys want to look at things through a specifically gendered lens, but fridging is something that happened to women and children alike. It comes from a very similar place.

you said that a nb character existing, so long as the company profits from it, is exploitation.

that is literally what you said.

(frozen comment) Re: da

(Anonymous) 2016-07-27 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
no it doesn't

culturally, we do not normalize violence against children the same way we do misogyny.

they are both bad, but they are not comparable unilaterally.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-27 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
what is with this trend of giving characters freckles in fanart when they don't have any in canon

it looks so stupid

this is the dumbest shit to get pedantic about, anything can be a dog name because people name their pets anything and everything, they're not expected to fit a societal convention like human names are
