tumblr dash is feeling pretty vindicated that sheith is more "canon" and "right" than shiro and pidge together because pedo. it almost makes me want to ship that shit harder to spite them
or at least ship klance because shut uppppppppppppppp
how many people even ship that anymore in this are of the woods? the last time i saw an anon looking for psl partners for that ship it was nothing but crickets
...how was it not obvious that shiro was well over 18? knowing there was a timeskip and just looking at his character design, i find it hard to believe people just didn't know.
granted, it's a cartoon so sometimes people don't look their age or whatever, but it was always a duh thing for me, personally.
even without the timeskip, he's supposed to be an experienced explorer while the rest are still in training. so yeah the cartoon excuse isn't valid here.
i'm desperately hoping it's a red herring and the arc will be more of a "rescue" arc than a "revenge" arc, if that makes sense
i know they're clearly gunning for the original golion team of keith being the "leader," or at the very least, they're heavily referencing it, but i feel like there's too much that still hasn't been cleared up for them to kill off a main character like shiro so soon
there's a lot about his memory loss that's not clear, his relation/history with keith that they're (vaguely) hinting at, etc etc. i feel like it'd be a huge waste of a character to kill him off, especially when you compare him to other characters that fit the "mentor/leader being killed off to motivate the team" trope
kamina from ttgl, for example, was a good character, but his death didn't really deprive you of anything besides his presence. he was a pretty straightforward character with not a lot "hidden" about him, unlike shiro, and he was literally just a vehicle for simon's development and maturation. shiro, imo, has more potential. actually, all of them do, cos lbr, the first season wasn't long enough to really establish most of them as fully fleshed out yet. killing any of them off so soon is gonna hit harder cos it's wasted potential
buuuuuuut, on the other hand, it depends on the team and how married they are to the idea of keeping the new voltron parallel to golion. if they're dead set on killing shiro, then that means allura will likely take the empty slot on the team, and keith should be the new black lion pilot. that leaves allura as the red one, which... doesn't flow very well, imo
tl;dr: it could go either way, but i'm leaning towards it being a diversion and something to create hype for the show
oldie here who's only seen the 80s version but one of my favorite story twists in the older version
should I put spoilers here? I'll warn for spoilers
was when the show brought Sven back during the last season as a prisoner who helped Allura's twin - cousin I think - escape Planet Doom. It's been forever since I watched it but I remember really being invested in their storyline and really liking the way it developed. Like I said its been a long time since I watched the show and I'm not following the new series but depending on how the new team works it, 'dead' doesn't necessarily mean dead.
that is very true, if they're going by the american version, which i would definitely be down with! my concern was that they were going with the japanese version of events, which shiro/sven did die, for reals, and his brother eventually replaced him. (they looked similar enough in the animation style that it was easy to pass them off as the same character in the dub) now, i doubt they'd pull the "secret brother from nowhere" thing in this version, but that's why i'm a little bit concerned.
i think i'd have been less worried over it if they used his american name (sven) in the reboot, but they specifically used "shiro" so i think that's why i'm thinking they could be gunning for the actually-dead-version of events
then again, it's an entirely new version, and they could just be doing it to tease everyone and get everyone into a panic over shiro... either way, i really hope they don't kill him off prematurely. he's got potential...
i like the clarification that the other paladins without specific age are both "not adult" and "late teen" so they can be anywhere between 15-17 with the most likely ages being 16/17 since it seems they wanted to set them apart from pidge who is 14.
which still makes anything with the other paladins + shiro in that "gross pedo" range that some people get righteous about.
