numerous people treat tfln as a generic texting meme despite the 'drunk' premise (lol more like texts while ooc) so why does this generic texting meme exist??
idk, i like it more than tfln because you can just have characters text literally anything you want without having to dig around for something that works, any situation, any starting point
i know you don't HAVE to do that on tfln, you can make up your own and no one will notice or care, but still
ignored it because stopped caring about it/batfamily in my childhood
you're either full on neckbeard, into yaois, or new to comics (or not into them at all) if you give a single shit about it or them, even if it's relevant atm.
i don't know what's more amusing. the salt over the memes, or the fact that those memes are the more popular ones, so clearly people are playing in them. sorry your bloody hands bodyguard teenage hormones memes suck.
i know this is a shit thread, but i'll answer for real here. while there are some players that play exclusively in memes and psls, a lot of meme players are also in games. so they get their serious plotty continuous rp there. they go to memes to blow of steam and get a little instant gratification. the complaining about tfln and all the other shitty ecats memes being up and the more 'deeper' memes that people want other to come in and 'rite gud'? a lot of the times, people just aren't going to bs to look for good rp or anything that they can take away other than flapping genitals in the air. if you take the time to notice, you'll be able to figure out that the reason smut/shipping memes are flooding bs is because there's a lack of smutty games for people to get their ship on in them. in non-smut games, they can play out a ship, but most people generally settle on one ship to play since i can hear the cries of cockhop already echoing in the future if anyone played around in the game, even if it's ic.
so they play out their gud ritine in games where they have to follow the rules and they shit out their ass on bs because it's a release. with games getting more strict in apps and plots and closing down, people need to blow off steam. bs is where they do it. expecting anything decent there is just setting yourself up for disappointment. it's like going to the club, picking someone up, and expecting it'll be your forever relationship. not fucking likely.
yeah but if games are getting stricter in their app standards, then doesn't it stand to reason that more players are looking to memes rather than games for their general rp fix?
i get where you're coming from and everything else makes sense, but i just don't think game participation is on the rise the way your argument seems to imply that it is. there's always been a subset of players that behave the way you describe, playing in games for their "real rp" and going to bakerstreet for throwaway funtimes. but there's also been a subset of people who play on memes exclusively just because they don't want to join games for whatever reason, and no, they're all not shit-tiers either (though a lot of them are).
personally, i think the rise of lazy text memes has less to do with an increase of game players and more to do with a lot of the non-shit tier meme players retiring or going elsewhere for their rp.
i hate the oocness that comes in with the tfln crowd i hate the "funny" prompts i hate tfln in general
what's the point of not having a general single text post only where you state preferences where you can put "down for only tfln" "up for sexting and gen" "only here for sexting!" or whatever
because if tfln, a meme dedicated to just tfln, fills up before 24 hrs is up, not everyone wants to start shit on a meme that they can't fully follow through with without taking it to another place or a spillover meme. tfln hits captcha nine times out of ten before a full day's up. there's a reason it needs to be its own thing because it's a raging ecats spam monster, and any other type of actual meme play would have to deal with captcha for the rest of their meme thread within a very short amount of time of starting it.
is that a good enough answer for you? i don't play on tfln because i think it's not my style of meme. i don't want to go into a meme knowing that it's going to be captcha'd out before a day's up.
i don't even mean it in a bad way. it is what it is. and people like it. good on them. but tfln is a little whirlwind of back and forth and it takes over any meme that allows it. having a generic 'all texts including tfln' meme would just set it up for being taken over by the spamzilla.
conversely, it's why smut specific memes need their own thing, since plenty times, i've opened a smut text meme and seen images not behind cuts to start off dirty sexting. let the smutters play in their pool, the tfln play in theirs, and the gen/fluffy play in their own. there's literally nothing wrong with having separate memes other than 'eww, another meme i don't give a shit that i have to scroll past? my finger. my finger!'
i don't have a horse in the ecats race, but i definitely agree with you on gen and smut memes being made specific. a couple times i topleveled to one of the "hybrid" memes, not really thinking i needed to specify "not looking for smut" since something like the bodyguard meme doesn't really seem to be very smut-inviting, only to get hit with smut prompts. another time i posted to one looking just for gen, didn't specify gen only (again, my mistake) and got briefly namedropped here for it
hybrid memes are the lazy way out which is why they're so popular, but i think your way would bring less confusion at the end of the day
