i guess i just don't see the point in waiting to post a tag once it's written. i get that it can be satisfying to have a fully cleaned-out inbox, but i'd rather have the potential for tagbacks asap even if they come to refill my inbox while i'm in the middle of clearing it out. threads move faster that way.
i guess i was basing that on my experience with finches, which don't really have "chronic health problems" because they're small delicate birds that hide their illness until they die suddenly. one time we had to give them medicine cause one got sick and we spent like, $60 on it for the vet prescription and the meds.
eh, once upon a time this was true. but i did a tagbomb at about 5pm today and i've had one tag back. so i don't think it affects speed at the rates we all tag at these days.
nah, it's when you write them all up and then post them all at once. i do it by opening a new broswer window with a lot of tabs. powering through a lot is just focusing on tags.
nah, i can budget for food, regular medication, vet visits, immunizations. i don't have a budget for major health emergencies. i don't have a budget for major health emergencies for myself, either. i'm gonna continue having pets, and if i get another $2k+ bill, i'm gonna ask for help with that, and i sincerely don't care if that twists your undies.
you're not going to convince me, or anyone else, to put pride and some bizarre entitled sensibility before owning and caring for a pet we love.
get over it.
and yeah, you probably are privileged because you're insisting roughly 85% of the US population not own pets of any kind because we don't have the savings to cover an emergency bill, and while i don't have statistics on how many pet owners don't have pet insurance or care credit, i'm pretty sure that's still a significant number.
and lemme tell you anon, if that high of a percentage of americans are forbidden from having pets in your mind? that's a *lot* of dead animals that don't have to be, since there's significantly more pet-capable animals in this world than there are people you deem worthy of owning them. chew on that.
you're literally acknowledging that your "owning and caring for a pet we love" involves not being able to take care of said pet should an emergency happen lmao. learn to put another living creature's needs before your own desire to own a pet before you become responsible for its care maybe
and stop being willfully deaf to everything you're being told. no one said "DON'T HAVE PETS BECAUSE YOU'RE POOR!!!", they said "be financially responsible and get a cheaper pet if you can't afford the kind of unexpected costs animals like dogs and cats can incur". you're just whining because you want something fluffy and cute rather than the kind of pets that are actually within your budget.
Personally I like to tagbomb right before I go to sleep. That way I can't get caught up in boomeranging and stay up too late, plus I get to wake up to tags.
flatviewer here and getting really sick of this whole argument now but
you do realize that the majority of people living in America right now could not take care of themselves should a medical emergency happen
we don't live in a world where everyone has finances perfectly prepared for every eventuality, dude. we live in a world where people make do the best they can and try to get by living as happy a life as they can with what they've got, then cross crisis bridges when they come to them
coping with uncertain futures is part of being a functional adult. life is financially precarious for the VAST majority of people and you can't change that just by throwing a tantrum on wg about how you think people "should" live. you don't sound like the "responsible" one here. you sound like a clueless, out of touch, shut-in who's woefully lacking in real world experience
Honestly don't remember the player's name since it was so long ago. This happened about 2009-2010ish. The name I've forgotten, the weirdness of it all I never shall.
and do you know how many animals would be lucky to even have the option to be taken in by a person who cares for them enough to try to raise money for their medical bills?
a whole fucking lot. you lack empathy and perspective. we are not living in a society where we can afford to only trust animals to perfect pet owners, sorry to say. i would rather see these animals allowed to live and be loved at all than have every animal not owned by a person who can't necessarily expect or afford a 2k+ vet bill go homeless or euthanized.
don't get me wrong. if we are talking about basic medical expenses and things that can easily be expected of a pet owner, i would totally agree, but shit happens. pet insurance is expensive despite what some middle class millenials would try to have you believe and emergency vet bills can run into the tens of thousands.
if that was what you were going to do you should have just put him down yourself
because anons are right - that's exactly what happened and at the very least he could have been spared the frightening experience of being abandoned first
i work at a no kill and i have to tell you, this shelter you worked at is not the norm. it is very rare for one to take in animals that have serious or life-threatening conditions. most no kills are simply able to remain that way by only taking in animals that are considered "adoptable," ie. relatively healthy and young.
