serious response as someone who used to ship and receive shit a lot: if this is a common issue, set up an account with fedex (and ups/dhl/the post office/etc). usually you'll get notifs about incoming packages and you can change them to require a signature or to be rerouted and held at a store.
some services charge you for this (last i knew, ups did that) but it can still be really handy.
also if you know someone is going to ship to you, tell them the package needs to be signed for. if you aren't home then the driver can't leave it, they have to take it with them.
