anon, i'm gonna ask you this, since it seems to be the heart of the issue
why is it the responsibility of those replying to you to start a conversation about the ship when the far *easier* and less awkward thing to do would be to clearly state your preferences up front and mitigate the need for the conversation altogether? if this is about communication, isn't the most clear and effective communication just to put your preferences in your top level or somewhere on your journal? is that not good communication?

I don't know if you didn't parent up or if the circular argument was a conscious decision this is about effective communication, not blame assignment.
