the theory of shiro getting together with a random is strong. one of the animators and shiro's va posted about being back in the studio doing some last minute stuff (the animator even posted a drawing of shiro he was making). so the execs accepting to do something as an answer to the backslash isn't impossible.
I also, and could be remembering this wrong, though that Lauren said something at NYCC about 'not being able to fix everything' for season 8 or something along those lines. So I wouldn't be surprised if after the backlash from season seven went down there were some quickie 'fixes' thrown at season 8. Given their complete tone-deafness I don't believe for an instant that the writers/studio fixed any of the actual problems with the storyline/characterization/writing. Mostly likely they just threw something shiny in there the way they usually do thinking it will make everything better. The studio is burying the final season release, with the next Trollhunters coming out almost directly on top of it and a month after their She-ra release so it can't taint their new money horse. A gay rando wedding isn't outside of belief because OBVIOUSLY the only thing wrong with the series was Shiro not having a boyfriend. Timing it to Keith's birthday though - pretty sure the Shieth fans were the only large hardcore fanbase in the show still acting like everything was great and the show was flawless.
