yeah i probably should have worded it better but imo it says a lot that people immediately thought i was talking about m/f romance genre instead of m/f romance in general.

(also i've read harlequin novels, they're bad but entertaining.)

honestly i know people were bagging on adults reading YA fiction earlier here but the supernatural romance boom was one of the best ways to get a fix of supernatural/fantasy action mixed with a female-centered romance.

it says a lot about... people reading exactly what you wrote?

idk i feel that me asking 'hey i would like more m/f romances catered to women in stuff' and people going 'um there is the romance genre go there' is kind of missing the point.

for example it's always safe to assume that in every media series with a male lead there's going to be a designated female love interest, which will pretty much not be written for a female audience in mind. it's not the main focus or drive of the story, but it's there, and i'm saying in my fantasy/scifi/action series, i'd really love to see more stuff that would titillate a female fan in the romance department.

the fact i have to clarify it says a lot because people already default that because the romance genre is heavily geared towards women, there is no problem or issue here.

but you didn't say "in stuff", you only said "m/f romance for women". and nobody said there is no issue. it doesn't say "a lot" it only says you suck at wording stuff. don't try to find a deeper meaning in something so simple like a silly mistake

i mean i probably should/could have clarified it further but i also didn’t think it was something i needed to do. i should also point out that the first thing that was said was in this thread was that i was looking for chick flicks, which is definitely not the case

tbf what i’m looking for is also something i have a hard time to describe since i’m not looking for content that’s solely about m/f romance, but the development & fallout of the relationships between characters that isn’t a afterthought.

>the first thing that was said was in this thread was that i was looking for chick flicks, which is definitely not the case

well, again: we can't read your mind. you didn't go in detail about what you're looking for. you just said m/f for men is everywhere (in SOME genres, sure) and then you said "i want more m/f romance that is more about the lady getting the dude than the dude chasing after the lady". the literally describes chick flicks, shojo manga, romance novels with pink covers and favio on them, and all the YA stuff that has come out since twilight and the hunger games (which, guess what, includes fantasy and scifi. "paranormal romance" became a genre for a reason)

you worded something badly. it's ok. it's not the end of the world. but don't say "it says a lot" about anons. we correct people all the time around here. there isn't some hidden moral lesson about canons for women or some other shit in this.

you're coming across as offended at being generalized or something idk.

it also feels kind of condescending to me that you list off all of those alternatives like i'm not aware of it, which i am? i've read plenty of shoujo, romance novels, YA books including the paranormal genre, etc.. i don't really see why i need to list off every single example of what i've gone through.

and again, most of what you list isn't the m/f romance geared towards women that i'm looking for. a lot of them are heavily predictable, and as i said, the romance is usually the main focus of the story and while i want it to be there, i'd rather have it be secondary to the main plot. the closest to what i've found is paranormal romance in the YA genre but once again, most of it is predictable and heavily formulatic at this point.

honestly the best examples of what i wish there was more of is stuff like basara and 7 seeds. they're all very firmly shoujo/josei but they have strong plots and world building, with the romance being an important part of the story but it's not what's driving it.

probably, because you hit one of my big pet peeves which is people expecting others to read their minds

"most of what you list isn't the m/f romance geared towards women that i'm looking for." yes we got that already. you keep missing the point. you didn't say this on your op.

op: i want more of x
anons: huh there's a lot of x over here and there
op: that's not what i'm looking for! i shouldn't need to clarify this! it says a lot about anons that i need to clarify what i'm looking for (when i never even hinted at it on my op)!

this is what i'm criticizing you for. your dumb "i thought it was a given, it says a lot about these answers, i shouldn't have to explain" lines. not your taste in romance, which probably would've got you tons of +1 if you had worded things better. you made a mistake, not the anons that replied to exactly what you asked for.

you also seem hellbent on trying to prove that i’m wrong so good job i guess? i don’t know what you’re trying to accomplish aside from trying to prove that you’re right by being overly hostile.

as i said earlier it wasn’t something i thought i had to clarify and to me it’s a more noticeable and obvious difference, so i was honestly surprised and a little peeved that people were suggesting and telling me to go to genres as if i didn’t know they existed or were unaware of them, when this was a complaint i’ve had that was simmering for years

i honestly wasn’t expecting this to get such a strong reaction tho so i guess i did the part of ‘making people rage’ part right lmao

I understood what you meant right away, I guess because I was also thinking about what people are actually likely to RP from and wine mom movies have never been big on dwrp.

The first thing I thought of was Hunger Games... Maybe Labyrinth if you stretch some parameters. I think there's also Jupiter Ascending but I don't know for sure if that has a love interest or no.

I don't think it helps if you're a huge weeb though because the isekai genre for dudes is just fucking massive and impervious to change. Same show every cours, produced 2 or 3 times by different studios and the only difference is the panty colour. It's such a slab of empty content that I'm not sure any women's genre compares, and I guess there's no aspiration to try and move into marketing to women when you're making money for old rope and you've got a lucrative and reliable deal going with good smile company on 1/8 titty figs.
