i like a few characters who have a thing they're obsessed about. one likes a specific subject (ex. fish or electronics), one likes a specific medium (ex. video games or anime).
it seems like most people in MULTIPLE FUCKING FANDOMS can only accept two extremes:
* character loves only that specific thing (ex. fish master race/they live and breathe rpgs) and every other interest is fuckin trash, or
* loves literally everything that has to do with that thing (ex. liking every single anime genre that exists, including yaoi even when character is a straight man, or refusing to buy any clothes that don't feature electronic/sci-fi shit).
just... why??? they literally have preferences like "loves mecha anime, especially gundams" or "loves sea creatures but thinks whales are shit tier" yet people seem to think you can't possibly like a thing without being a mind-numbingly stupid and over the top autism stereotype. and no, these characters aren't autistic.
like what's wrong with loving strategy games but also enjoying dating sims or rpgs... or loving the future of electronics but thinking apple is still a terrible company run by a weird fucker who washed his feet in a toilet...
i have to ignore dumbass anons on tumblr acting like i'm The Most Wrong for actually accepting the fact that these characters have preferences IN CANON. i'm not going to cen/so//r names or not talk about my fandoms just so i don't upset people with canon facts, fuck off.
ngl it feels kind of insulting when people act like you can't love something like dinosaurs unless you only buy clothes with dinosaurs on them, only check out canons that involve dinosaurs, only listen to dinosaur-positive media, only name your pets after dinosaurs, like holy shit stop this.

i hate this trend too, it's like the people who perpetuate it have never actually... interacted with other humans before, or stopped to think "y'know, i like anime but only xyz genres, perhaps that's true for my smol cinnamon roll husbando as well"
like you'd think if someone's going to fawn over a character to the point they're making up headcanons they would at least put some effort into fleshing them out and making them more complex and layered

yeah, exactly. fleshing them out is one of the fun parts of fandom. if stacy is a fan of werewolves or she's just a plain old wolfaboo, how does she feel about werewolves in twilight, where the werewolf boy doesn't get the girl and gets to be a pedo instead? or teen wolf? how would she feel about being in a monster game like ryslig? would she fuck some sexy werewolves? complain about how the werewolves in ryslig aren't realistic enough for her taste? get assblasted if she herself doesn't transform into a majestic werewolf? how would she feel about other ryslig monsters? or monster politics?
it seems like too many people IN MULTIPLE FUCKING FANDOMS would rather assume stacy only cares about werewolves, nothing else.

characters that are involved in some kind of fandom can be the worst when people project their own fandom tastes so hard on them instead of even trying to research what would be more realistic and ic
a japanese teenager who in canon only watches titty anime and collects half-naked waifu figures is probably more likely to hang out where japanese neckbeards actually congregate on the internet instead of screaming about smol gay sons on tumblr
