you're right, that happens all the time in games and it drives me crazy too
but here is the thing: male character players do it too. falling for the coffee shop/restaurant/florist trap is something everyone does, so we're back on hating girls based on a double standard
Male characters absolutely do it, but it's less often they make it a sole character trait while they're in game. Bucky Barnes might inexplicably take up with a knitting circle, but will still go out and get involved in conflict shit and game plot.
I'm not interested in playing with people like the Black Widow mentioned upthread, who just want to erase everything interesting about her in lieu of little 50's housewife-style bullshit, thanks.
With that said, I think Bucky is broken enough that a knitting circle might be good therapy for someone with trauma like his. It's a tiny way to help him learn how to create something after being used as a machine for killing and destruction.
I agree that it's definitely not the only thing he should be doing, but I'd be into threading with one who did try to use it as a form of selfcare.
