reading the write-ups they have on these characters, and the one time i got a tag or two out of them in a thread, i was genuinely struggling to make something work, but their characters are just such shitty people it makes it actually harder to respond to them.

like it seems the character they want to bounce all of them off of are either doofy service tops who don't realize they're being used or callous doms who will respond to their brattiness with lecherous punishments. which would be fine if we were talking about one oc among a roster, but it's *all* of their ocs that seem to want these responses.

This is just standard tumblr and IJ. Not even to be like "ahhh oh no tumblr ppl are here go away," just that it's super normal on there to have this sort of character and make a billion of them. I think it stems from the idea that RPF is inherently kind of creepy so they make the "character" have a personality different from how the person acts in real life so they feel less weird about it. But then the player isn't very creative at coming up with personalities that aren't super flat like you anons are talking about.

At least that's my theory.

not sure it applies to the player i'm thinking of, but that makes complete sense with how they seem to make a New Generic OC for every PSL they want to do over there

it's like how you shouldn't play an mc from persona if you don't want to be bothered trying to coordinate social link levels with the other players, it's just part of playing that character

most games i've seen that allows CRAUs have a rule along these lines, or require permission before jumping the gun. if someone is pulling that shit without your comfort and consent, you should make sure they're not breaking any rules.

most players i've interacted with seem fine with CRAUs, so you really need to put on your big kid pants and communicate when you're not okay with it. tbh this situation isn't any different than someone new apping up a dropped character who had a ton of CR with other characters still in game. characters are going to remember a different version than the one you're playing and you still need to speak up if they're pushing your boundaries.

pretty sure that craus are one of those rp things where if you run into the comparatively fewer number of bad apples it can sour the bunch for you. like plenty of people are wary of, say, guys playing f/f. sure, there are guys playing f/f who aren't total creeps and there are crau players who are normal and respectful, but if you meet the other bunch enough times you get bitter about it.

same thing goes for wols and pretty much any rp situation. experiences differ and of course if you keep finding the bad ones you get wary. i think it's good to acknowledge the bad experiences do exist instead of saying they don't, but similarly it's good to acknowledge the good.

it's fucking stupid to pretend the bad doesn't exist or the good doesn't exist, though. wankgate exists because rp always has had and always will have those players who make the hobby a bad experience for others from time to time - but similarly we all stay in the hobby because there are net positives.

really funny how the crau thread is like "oh well you don't have to tag crau characters! just opt out!" but when it's a wol or malleable protag you CANT EVER OPT OUT WHATS EVEN THE POINT as if npc characters cannot exist without sucking the milk out of the MCs cock every second they breathe

+0.75 that's been my experience in recent games but it wasn't always the case. it seems like the current culture around craus is a response to how bad crau players abused them before other people caught on. mods are more pro-active and some require opt-out posts, and more and more crau players are including opt-out posts out of consideration for other players even when it isn't required. there's definitely still some asshole crau players out there, but now they seem like the minority, especially since more players have warmed up to the idea and are starting to drown them out. i still don't blame anyone else for not wanting to deal with them, though.

honestly customizable protags should be easy to opt out of without any characterization issues whatsoever. all you have to do is have your character look at shepherd/the wol/the inquisitor/the jedi exile/etc and go "sorry i don't recognize you" and fuck off forever.

I didn't check wg yesterday and there are several new pages to go through today. I'm getting the sense that most of it is going to be people complaining about ffxiv. Did something else happen to generate activity? Who knows. Probably not. It's probably just more of this thread, spiraling off into incoherence forever.
