239: how does one become popular on dreamwidth rp?

I apped into a decently-sized cast at a large game. We had about eight cast members there, including my character. My character was close to three of the castmates and had a passing familiarity with the others.

Of the three castmates my character knew, one was my character's BFF/the character that fandom usually ships my character with. This is not a canon ship btw, it's just a popular fandom ship. And while I do ship that ship, the other character was in a ship with someone else when I apped in so I went in respecting that and not expecting a ship at all.

For about two months, I pursued CR with all of the cast. It had mixed results: there were a couple flakes in the cast who barely tagged, and there were a few people who tagged back frequently and we were building solid CR together. But the castmate who was my character's BFF tagged back really slowly, going like 10 days between tags sometimes. I gave it a good try for a while, but the only threads we had were ones where I pursued that character (they never tagged any of my top levels) and they were tagged back so slowly that we hadn't even made it through the "oh my god, you're here!" thread we started when I intro'd the character two months previously. So I figured the player was either a flake or not interested in CR and left it at that. I kept tagging our threads whenever the player tagged me back, but I didn't ask for new threads and I didn't tag their character's top-levels. I would have tagged back if they had tagged my top-levels, but they never did.

A couple more months pass, and another player in our cast approached me asking if I had a beef with the player of my character's BFF. I said no and asked where they got that idea, and it turned out that the player was talking to everyone else in the cast about how anxious they were and how they thought I hated them. The whole problem literally could have been solved by them just coming and talking to me, but they pulled this nonsense instead. So I explained to the other player that no, I didn't have a problem with BFF's player, I was still tagging our threads (which were four months old at this point and still not done, to give you an idea of how long it was taking to do anything).

Then BFF's player talked to me finally about it and I told them that I didn't want to step on any toes since I was new in the cast and all, so I had been leaving things be in case there was a reason they were tagging me back slowly/not tagging my top levels/not doing any OOC plotting with me. They said that wasn't the case and that they were happy to play with me, so I said awesome, let's play some more threads then.

I set up a thread that they never tagged into, and they stopped communicating with me after that. The cast didn't ice me out or anything (everyone else was pretty chill) but I really didn't want anything to do with whatever the fuck that one player was doing so I dropped a month later.

I guess that wasn't exactly the 'worst cast' but it was the oddest situation I've ever been in.

You could do iconless RP like the rest of us OC-players.

this, but extend it to every other unforeseeable financial disaster. half the people on this website are from a capitalist hellscape where something that would be a routine medical procedure in any civilized country can lead to total bankruptcy. shit happens. people get poor. "never get a pet unless you, personally, have enough millions to never have to worry about financial ruin no matter what happens" is not a reasonable rule for anyone to live by.

Are you sure they're not just friends who always tag each other anyway? Long threads ain't always because of a character's popularity and more the player.

Heck, even with MCUs, one bucky could have 10 threads and another could have 0 in the same meme.

I don't mind people asking for money to help their young pets or even pets who have pre-existing or recently diagnosed conditions. No one can predict when your kitten is gonna eat a sock and need $4,000 worth of vet care or when your vet is suddenly going to diagnose your dog with diabetes.

My only annoyance is people who have pets that are getting very old and then act surprised pikachu face when they have serious issues go wrong with them. News flash: if a pet has gotten above the age of ten, they're now a senior, so you need to start squirreling cash away because inevitably they're gonna have a major health crisis whether you like it or not. Whether that comes at age ten, thirteen, or twenty is something nobody can predict but it WILL happen eventually if you have an elderly pet.

even then that's something you need to be prepared for, though. pets are dumb and they eat stupid things, that's just how they are. you would think they have some sort of instinct that would tell them that doing so is dangerous for them but they really, really don't, and no matter how vigilant you are, stuff can still happen. i thought i was being as careful as i could be about not having any sort of twine, ribbons, string, plastic ties etc. around and yet my cat managed to eat a decorative ribbon off a sweater and land herself with expensive vet bills.

that is also my exact experience with raven cycle players. the only real difference is there are fewer of them.

...what? no? the whole point of this thread was people are saying the only reason arcane rpers are rping the series is for the lesbian couple. and i was correcting them saying it's actually for the two males in the show not so much of the lesbian couple. that's it.

that could be it too, yeah.

the whole point i was just trying to make that the fandom itself are more invested about the male characters' chemistry with each other. so it's not exactly ALL LESBIANS like the previous op stated.
