(Anonymous) 2022-03-05 04:22 am (UTC)(link)situations change. it's like judging people who are poor but have some nice things that they were given or had got before falling into hard times.
now if you purposefully got a pet after your financial turmoil, then you're the asshole.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-06 01:22 am (UTC)(link)My only annoyance is people who have pets that are getting very old and then act surprised pikachu face when they have serious issues go wrong with them. News flash: if a pet has gotten above the age of ten, they're now a senior, so you need to start squirreling cash away because inevitably they're gonna have a major health crisis whether you like it or not. Whether that comes at age ten, thirteen, or twenty is something nobody can predict but it WILL happen eventually if you have an elderly pet.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-06 02:16 am (UTC)(link)even then that's something you need to be prepared for, though. pets are dumb and they eat stupid things, that's just how they are. you would think they have some sort of instinct that would tell them that doing so is dangerous for them but they really, really don't, and no matter how vigilant you are, stuff can still happen. i thought i was being as careful as i could be about not having any sort of twine, ribbons, string, plastic ties etc. around and yet my cat managed to eat a decorative ribbon off a sweater and land herself with expensive vet bills.
Re: PLURK PET PEEVES
(Anonymous) 2022-03-06 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)ideally, yes, but even if you have a buffer, it's very easy for emergency vet bills to be much higher than you could reasonably prepare for. and most people don't have multiple emergency funds, they have one pool, so if eg. someone's car needs a major unforeseen repair and then the cat manages to find and eat a plastic bag, the cat still needs vet care, but the money's already been depleted.
