good on you, anon, for trying so hard to give them the benefit of the doubt and trying to look for ways you can learn from this.

but honestly like... i think you're almost certainly giving them too much benefit of the doubt. that doesn't mean that they're actually some kind of actively malicious person, but the way you're writing suggests they really did do a number on your self-perception. i'm getting the vibe that they may have done a lot of weird pass-agg negging while you were ostensibly close friends? while also not at all acknowledging times you went above and beyond for them? and somehow this is all your fault because you're "annoying"? you're hurt but literally all you can do is talk about how YOU suck??

it might do you some good to stop checking their twitter and stuff, though. i know there can be a weird blend of "just checking in" and spite-fueled fascination, but you're just letting someone who wasn't good to you take up even more of your time and energy. it's not worth it.

you're a sweet person anon and i appreciate it but please trust that i was annoying for real. imagine if you were a naruto fan and i was your friend and the only thing i knew about japan at all was whatever you told me about naruto. over the course of our friendship i kept apologizing for liking some american thing that wasnt as good as authentic japanese things like you like. like for real on the level of i finally tried instant ramen and told you apologetically that it wasn't as good as the chicken noodle soup i make from scratch. and now imagine that i usually hold myself out as being very sophisticated and intelligent.

as far as above and beyond goes, oh yeah, i did do that, but also i did say "no thanks needed" over and over again.

you're right that i should stop dwelling on this person. at least because of this discussion and your kind advice i think i know why i'm so stuck on them. i wouldn't say why on wankgate, because the most cursed womanchildren cackle here side by side with the gossip-loving angels, but all the same an answer exists.
