yeah i think joseimuke properties such as ensemble stars and twisted wonderland have thousands and thousands of text surrounding their characters and the world they live in, which explains how they both bring in billions of yen every month.

As a casual enstars fan I would never RP from it because there is way too much to read for any given character.

I think it depends on whether the game bases its gacha on new characters (like Genshin) or new cards of existing characters (enstars, twisted wonderland). Games like Genshin are always expanding their cast, so you naturally get less content for older characters once their newness has worn off, though they may come back for events here and there. Enstars/TW on the other hand are building up the lore of their existing characters with every new event or card story because they rarely if ever add new characters.

yeah, imo there's a big difference between the gacha games that are basically waifu/husbando collectors that are always putting out new characters because the point is building a huge collection versus the games like enstars or tw that have a small base cast and then just do new cards/outfits for the existing characters. the first kind doesn't usually have much character depth because that isn't the focus.

yeah twisted wonderland was one of the ones i was thinking of, actually. there's so much story there for all of the characters that i would be worried about about forgetting things because even if it wasn't something that was directly relevant to my character, it still probably affects them in some way.

not for nothin anon but i don't think this is exclusive to joseimuke, it's more just any gacha game that is able to keep itself sustained for a long time either needs good characters to keep people engaged (and i'd say non-joseimuke mobage manage this, like fate and granblue) or a gameplay loop that is addictive enough to sustain it without (puzzle and dragon).

tbh one of the biggest joseimuke gacha games is famously lacking in story and good character writing, touken ranbu. that's not saying it's bad, there's a lot of media outside the core game to dive into if you want, but it's really not as simple as you make it sound.

calling fate and granblue characters "good" is a real stretch

good for gacha games, maybe

nah, i'd just call them good. not every character is good, some are really underdeveloped, but others get plenty of time to develop and even if they only ever play a role in a single chapter of the story, that role is usually competently written.

ymmv, but if we're using stuff like enstars and twst as a metric (and the anon i replied to was), they're at least as well written as those characters are

It depends with fgo since there's different writers and some care way more than others. I wouldn't consider most of nasu's characters generic gachas but some of the other ones (especially the early sakurai characters are). That said this is wg so you're unlikely to convince ayrt of anything anyways.

yeah, like i said, it's not ALWAYS good, but i'd say it's at least compatible with the other games that were mentioned in terms of overall quality.

I hate popular things too. Surely there is no reason why these games are popular amongst the thousands of other waifu collecting gachas. God I'm so cool.

i've played both, dude. the reason they're more popular is because the art is consistently excellent and they're not riddled with bugs. the characters are gacha characters and the stories are gacha stories.

lostbelt6 has more text in it than the original fate/stay night visual novel.

and before you say "quantity = quality", this whole discussion was about games like enstars having too much to read.
