My issue is that I tagged their top level and instead of just ignoring the tag if they didn’t like my character, they just gave me the text equivalent of [ blinks ].

they want you to be the one to drop so they won't look too inactive so the characters they're fishing for might still tag them.

ditto "who dis?" type forced misfires. it's people being lazy but somehow also putting more effort than they need to blow off a tag they're not interested in.

or they're that weirdo anon from forever ago who thinks assumed CR (y'know, the thing text memes are predicated on and thus will be the default and to be expected?) is some kind of nefarious plot to trap characters into weird kink plots and that assumed platonic friendships are a huge violation of OOC consent.

My absolute favorite bugfuck anon. All the other vitriolic ones who go on about smut or castmate preferences or whatever seem like strawmanners who want people to defend what they're ranting against.

But AssumeAnon? That was either genuine peak overinvestment crazy or a really, really skilled troll.

Either way, the memory of someone arguing that a "hey buddy, it's been a while, how's your sister?" level casual tag was some horrible overstep that only some evil godmoding stalker would do just resurfaces every so often when I'm tagging out, casually wondering if I'm about to offend some anal retentive freak by making up an imaginary party that two imaginary people were both at in an imaginary interaction.
