Re: character tropes you can't stand

bored geniuses. there's just nothing interesting to me about someone who just flops around listlessly because they're so much better than everyone. the only exceptions are when a character gets shown up relatively early in the series - it's not so much them getting knocked down a peg, but it can be fun to see someone or something light a fire under their ass. it just has to happen before i get completely sick of the characte, or else i won't care.

On a similar vein to this, the useless genius who does absolutely nothing but either sleep/play games/do nothing helpful but is kept around like a trump card for that one special moment of usefulness.

Even more if their special skill is a weird split personality that is hypercompetent/strong/incapable of getting anything wrong and apparently no one ever could've figured out how to do it without them (despite the solution being just punch harder).

This... is a trope?

It's a subset of the bored geniuses one, where it's usually just lazy, unreliable genius who always has to be dragged to do any actual work. The split personality is a mix of another trope (airhead with a crazy split personality), so combining them is the worst of both worlds for me.

There are very few characters like that, thankfully. Still hate them anyway.

Edward literally ruins Cowboy Bebop for me.
