i say this because i have had people try to push shippy cr with opposite-sex characters on my gay characters before. it's happened more than once so these days i just cut it off at the pass by making very clear up front that i play this character as gay and no, i will not change my mind no matter how much you go "please."

(i've had it happen with people pushing female characters at my guys AND people pushing male characters at my girls)

Tbh this. We've come a long way from "sorry girls I'm GAY XD" Sasuke/Naruto. I think being upfront about shipping or not is only a good thing, especially when people are dubious at best about keeping up with people's permissions. Sure it might have been a little rude if it went like this:

OP: Hi this is my character (female).
Other Player: SORRY HES GAY

But still, tonnes of people rp to ship and focus on that aspect of it. Being up front is just a good thing (though I agree with it being rude if that's how it went down).

but ia about being upfront about shipping prefs. i get ship pushing sucks, i've been on the opposite side of it too. just do your disclosures when appropriate, or else you're going to come across like a hypersensitive asshole. put them in your permissions in your journal. i read all those before i even broach any cr offer.

someone who comes out swinging with a big old SORRY HES GAY--now i don't want any cr with someone like that, because i have to assume they're going to be hypersensitive to anything they don't want or don't like.

Ya this I completely agree with, especially if they came out right off the bat like that. I'm sorry that happened anon :( I've definitely been ship-pushed on (for either same sex or opposite sex pairs) and it always sucks but to not just talk for a while then lay on the table that shipping won't happen between the two is weird behavior.

see that's the thing though, these people were totally fine and normal at first but then once we'd established platonic cr they started getting pushy about wanting to make it shippy so now i'm just wary in general. they clearly thought they would be able to change my mind once our characters were friends so i would rather be clear up front that it's not going to happen.
