239: how does one become popular on dreamwidth rp?

I was in a game with the setting being horror/apocalypse type. The character I played was the MC with a full cast already there, they were just missing the main character and my character's best friend. Eventually someone did app my character's BF but the player themselves were horribly inactive and flaky.

There was an event going on which resulted rainfall turning into acid rain of some kind. My character being a shounen type character naturally wanted to help people who were stuck in the weather (especially their cross-canon friends). My character's best friend, (I can't remember if they were on hiatus or not) wasn't present. I did contact the player via message to let them know,"Hey just so you are aware, MC is going to join this team that's going off to help people who are stranded." No response.

It was a few days to a week or so, I get a message from my character's BF player being extremely upset that I made MC help out their friends in need and how I shouldn't have done that without their character being involved. I tried to explain that having MC doing nothing (especially when one of their cross-canon friends contact them via communicator/inbox for assistance) would be horribly OOC. And I couldn't necessarily just handwave or fade to black the rescue because they wanted to roleplay the thread out(as did I). but the player was so upset by this that it disrupted the entire cast. Half were on my side, half were on theirs. RP!S secrets were made about me, the cast drama, and canon mates dropped due to the whole thing.

It was all such a mess and it killed my love for horror/apocalypse for me. After that, I just stuck with SoL games.
