Wait. Random anon who had no idea I could do that (and still has tonsils). Does it help?

Da and it doesn't always help but it can help a lot in some cases! Tonsil stones happen when food and mucus get trapped in the crevices of your mouth, not always just the tonsils. They can be the source of bad breath (because that's disgusting) or pain (because your body is trying to push some stuff out and the normal processes are clogged). Some people can get stones out by just coughing and clearing their throats, but sometimes it requires a little manual intervention. Be careful!

the trick is to try to push them from outside the tonsils instead of trying to scrape them out. i also develop fewer when i remember to keep on top of nightly flossing/brushing.

yeah, just squeeze your tonsil like you're trying to get out pomegranate seeds. fun bonus is that you will completely destroy your gag reflex!
