they want three thousand dollars from people for their ~*dream wedding*~

so yes, anon, it is pretty tacky and entitled and it's not really surprising it's getting called out

no one has described the actual plurk in question until the last few posts. literally no one. so anons defending a concept is different than defending whatever that is.

now i'm ayrt for real

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
ok yeah framing it as ~our dream wedding~ is indeed really tacky.
thanks for the added context, anon.

you can plan a ~dream wedding~ on just $3k these days? i see dresses go for more than that on the regular where i'm from, much less venue, food, dj, clothes, decorations, etc. huh. wild.

$3k was their "half" of it, supposedly. which means they'll probably mysteriously and suddenly discover they need to up their budget and beg for even more money, though thankfully it looks like most people aren't falling for it so they'll just give up 'til the next GFM and shoot for a lower target next time.

it's definitely not at ALL a lavish budget
but i guess it's in the framing. "funds are so tight that this is the only way we can afford to make day special at all" vibes different than "dream wedding."

unless i'm missing something, the person isn't begging. they're asking for people to commission them so they have wedding money

art commissions =/= begging. you're at least getting something for your input, but op conveniently left that part out to shit on someone who...maybe wants a fancy wedding?

Re: da

it's begging if the commissions are bad and nobody wants them

"i hve made the calculations and i need at least 3000 dollars to cover for my expenses, help"

"I need to marry the love of my life and I am desperate to save enough to do so please please help me i love them so much and i just want to cover my part of the wedding !!!!!!!"

taken word for word from their plurk/ko-fi page which yes, still reads very much like begging, especially when they went out of their way to specify a ridiculously high number vs. just asking people to pay what they can, which makes it look like they're more concerned about the $$

i've seen a lot of these "oh i'll totally do commissions and give back, promise!" type deals and the commissions either are 1. absurdly delayed or 2. wind up not happening at all, which loops back into it being a handout just with slightly subtler terms + a very obvious guilt-trip at play

p.s. their timeline is full of begging for commissions/GFMs, constantly, so either they can't budget or they're grifting or both

the irony is that if they'd just said something like "hey y'all, i'm getting married and want to save up for a nice wedding so i'm opening commissions," no one would be bothered. it's the fact that they're essentially begging/guilting people to donate or get a commission that makes it tacky af.

coming back to this thread to say that i just want to frame this comment and put it on top. succinctly covers why this could be sympathetic AND why it's leaving a bad taste in some peoples' mouths in two sentences.
