This really comes off to me as the internet equivalent of a bunch of kids getting into a scrap on the playground. Something very trivial gets taken hyperseriously by a bunch of people who treat it as a life-or-death situation and escalate it into a ridiculous online slappy fight.

totally agree. a lot of times I think 80% of our issues could be solved if people would slow down and consider how something they want to play might effect everyone else they're trying to play it with before springing it on them. of course in this scenario they would also have to care about how fun it would be for others instead of hyper focusing on what they wanted to do themselves.

Hey, OP of this post here! I've added extra details because an anonymous source was awesome enough to log into LJ and grab me screencaps of the entire convo between the players and the mods. If you wanted to go back and read someone getting really upset about the logistics of acquiring a hang glider in the 1950s, I'd take a second look.
