it is customary and normal in dwrp for npcs to treat malleable protags as coming from, basically, an alternate timeline from their own. this is not new and the WOL doesn't get to be the exception all of a sudden

no like, if you have a problem playing against malleable protags then don't play characters from a game with a malleable protag, this isn't quantum fucking mechanics

really funny how the crau thread is like "oh well you don't have to tag crau characters! just opt out!" but when it's a wol or malleable protag you CANT EVER OPT OUT WHATS EVEN THE POINT as if npc characters cannot exist without sucking the milk out of the MCs cock every second they breathe

honestly customizable protags should be easy to opt out of without any characterization issues whatsoever. all you have to do is have your character look at shepherd/the wol/the inquisitor/the jedi exile/etc and go "sorry i don't recognize you" and fuck off forever.

i'm not a wankgate encyclopedia so idk what hellion is actually known for offhand but i assumed that was less "persona? hellion!" and more "the idea of being obligated to play with castmates? hellion!"

Hellion was known for getting one of the wank comms deleted and harassing one of his castmates across games and comms.

I remember him having a persona 3 protag journal at one point idk how used it was though

didn’t this whole thread start because of someone complaining about wanting to rp NPC characters but apparently not being able too because they would “have” to be interested in WoLs

and someone came in and told them no they wouldn’t have to and they proceeded to get angry about it

i am pretty sure a lot of people who just obsessively hate WoL on this community zone out of actually paying attention to MSQ because if you think you HAVE to obsess over WoL then you didn’t pay attention to the story at all

having played npcs it's honestly not a big deal, i just did the "you're not my wol" thing and none of them were bothered by that.

but if you don't want to interact with wols at all i do have to ask why you'd be apping an npc into a game that allowed them. for most npcs, even if a wol isn't their wol they're still likely to at least want to get to know someone who comes from a different version of their world.

the whole “you’re not my WoL” thing isn’t so weird either bc AU WoLs are a thing in canon

au wols in canon are a thing as in the concept of the warrior of light exists; wols who aren't from the source have entirely different histories and wouldn't know any of the npcs at all (so, they truly would be 100% fandom ocs, just with the wol title attached)

in an actual npc-wol sense, "you're not my wol" would exclusively mean "you know a version of me and have experienced the same history, but [in a way that isn't explained by canon] you aren't the person i know"

anon, you’re taking what I said too literally. my point isn’t that AU WoLs in canon have the same experiences, but the very fact that AU WoLs exist as a concept in general existing wouldn’t be something new or overtly strange to most MSQ NPCs.
