....except is it a rule?? This is all I could find on the faq.

Can I use a PB?
For OCs or canons with limited or unavailable visuals (such as novels or comic books with difficult-to-find digital scans), PBs are fine. It's also acceptable for malleable protagonists with customizable appearances (such as Mass Effect), as we understand that not everyone has access to resources that allow screencapping of their characters (or the visuals are severely limited, such as first-person gameplay). Fanart and commissions are also sufficient alternatives, as well as some additional "special" icons (i.e. pets, animal forms, morphs, et cetera).

Non-humans are not required to be humanized for the setting, however, so we would prefer to leave their physical appearance intact. Additionally, we would rather players do not substitute a PB for a character with already available visuals. For example, we would allow use of a PB for younger/older versions of Harry Potter characters or make exceptions if you are intending to play strictly from the books than the movies, but we will discourage anyone from drastically altering a character's canon appearance by using a PB, especially if that character has plenty of screentime and visuals in their canon.

And the facetwin thing is easily mitigated enough by saying "I don't want to play facetwin mechanics." If the other person pushes that it's a different issue.

I think the other part of this is that the character in question had a PB in the show version but didn't want to use them.

show and books don't always line up. the original part of this was a book cast. i've seen some people use different pbs for hp from books or got from books or a lot of show/movies that have book series with them to show they're different.

sa

eg, look at shadow and bone/grishaverse. the book descriptions are wildly different for some of the characters that were cast in the series. don't get me started on the racism aspect when the shows wrote for inclusivity of cast and the books have a very different aesthetic that doesn't line up, so it'd be kind of a dick move to call someone a racist if they went with a book fitting pb for the main char instead of the poc visual cast.

thing is in this case the yennefer and zoya's actresses are both half english/half indian which made the whole argument for the pb even more weird. why not just use the portrayal of the character from the canon you're actually playing from, instead of using the exact same icons as someone who's already in the game? is yennefer really the most accurate to that character's physical description in the books that you're willing to steamroll a current player?

is that the character that they were using? because the actual used character/canon wasn't brought up here. all that was brought up here was 'book player used a pb that happened to also be a pb from a current in game canon char' and then something something racism, which i'm confused about so whatever.

yes, it was zoya using yennefer as her pb. she did use a different actress in the end but it was zoya's castmate that went off about it on plurk and brought race into it.

it was dumb but everyone involved seems to be over it now so it was really stupid for anon to bring it up.
