Playing a character type across different canons is a lot easier than playing a lot of characters in one canon. Easier to have consistency too.

Playing the same character type across different canons is just playing the same character in a different setting. It shows limited range if you're only ever playing the sweet waifu type or the dumb strong boy.

tho imo i'd prefer one really good sweet waifu type player over a mediocre one with too many character types

which is exactly what happens when you play every character in one canon
