i have modded and i absolutely know about the issues that opening the floodgates can cause

the issue here is:

1. how frequently does "i had a door pass but forgot to use it" ever come up? the system is easy enough that i'd be amazed if it ever came up more than once or twice
2. the player isn't in game yet so the mods don't need to edit anything on info pages. they have to respond to the question anyway, so whether they say yes or no would take the exact same amount of effort.

yes, you could end up with other people taking it out of control and asking for a swap when they're not in the same situation, but in hat case it's easy to say "no, this player had a valid door pass and asked before joining the game".

i don't recall anyone ever being banned from deer. and the only rejected apps that come to mind are the deadpool player that wrote the app ic and someone apping the girl from IT and we all know why milk rejected that one.

that just makes it worse imo

consider that it doesn't come up very often because when it comes up, the mods don't allow changes.

if the mods did allow changes because people forgot, consider, with your huge brain, how much more often it would come up.

the thing is the whole mechanic is absolutely meaningless because any character can request a change twice a year and "in game" nothing changes at all

it's not this huge issue if someone is one thing or another, that's part of the whole problem here. the mods are acting like it's a big problem but in reality it has no impact on the game or the plot

the system as is is so easy that there's no reason for payers to say "fuck it, they allow changes, if i forget i forget"

yes, that also means it's so easy that this person was a gigantic dumbass to make the mistake they did, but when no extra effort is involved i'd still personally err on the side of what's most fun for the players rather than trying to teach them a lesson for being a dumbass. but maybe i'm just a weirdo who thinks dwrp is made to be fun.

of course it doesn't matter but that doesn't mean people can't feel annoyed by it

the mods going hard on defending core game mechanics when the metaplot hasn't moved an inch in over a year is part of why the player base is so frustrated with them

it's pretty telling that the worst case scenario you can think of is lazy players

if people start bringing up completely unrelated scenarios like "i've been in game 3 months and didn't know about door passes, can i pls change" just say no.

I really don't know why they still have the randomness element, tbh. It's fun for people who just don't want to pick but it's so easy to both change the designation in game and pick whatever you want on the TDM (unless someone's going to honest to god call you out on your character's preference for things like sunny days and coffee) that it seems pointless.

Back when the game opened it was actually luck of the draw with the TDMs because they went by things like hair color or name that weren't easy to BS and it was rare or non-existent to have a designation swap, but now they essentially just let you pick anyway.

not particularly. i've had a few spicy takes i think some of my friends would not enjoy, but if i don't like someone, i simply remove myself from their circle and don't think about them because i have better shit to do.

i would enjoy my persistent, obvious grudgewanker being outed tho.

it's almost like different situations are different and could have different solutions
