just caught up with the state of the game post and it really sounds like they're listening to player feedback. as long as that player is husisang. i have sympathy if several mods have had personal crises at the same time but this team asked for time to get the new mods up to speed months ago and now they're asking the same again without any noticeable period in between where anyone was at speed.

has there ever been a player suggestion that wasn't stonewalled by this team? asking them anything is like talking to a brick wall. the suggestion was for tdms to remain lighter and allow space for more involved bimonthly events so it doesn't seem like they even read it properly before throwing out a nope. i can't buy the line that 6 events a year would be limiting for what they want to do when this game has been running at zero metaplot for at least eighteen months and to my knowledge has never had any plot that influenced events for more than 3 months. let's not pretend there's some grand scheme now.

i agreed with the mods but didn't want to say so in the post in case it got brought here so it's not just that one player.

having a game event every other month would slow things down considerably unless the game events are huge (which they won't be let's be honest). maintaining a game doesn't mean slowing down the entire game to let the slowest players catch up, that's how games die.

to be honest if you can't keep up with events then you need to learn to establish boundaries. i see lots of players on my timeline trying to do every single thing in the game and that's impossible, it's not the mods' fault if you can't regulate your experience.

I thought it was p obvious that suggestion was more about the mods not being able to keep up than the players. I'd prefer a worthwhile event every other month over several months in a row of not finding anything to do because events are SOL fluff with aphro.

Re: DUPLICITY

(Anonymous) 2022-09-03 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
they're two separate problems that players want to solve by having less events, which would mean that players who aren't struggling to keep up would be left with less to do

also although i agree events have been lackluster lately i think it's disingenuous to say that they're all sol fluff with aphro. lots of players took advantage of the bodyswap and nightmares event to do dark and violent plots for instance.

It's exactly about the mods not being able to keep up.

People here who are trying to make it about the players and their fomo are missing the point. The mods are trying to feed us a glut of low nutrient candy and potato chips, pretending it keeps everyone full just by the sheer volume of it.

Players are trying to ask for some high quality, slow-cooked meat that they can sink their teeth into, and they're just trying to find a way to communicate that with the most stubborn and antagonistic mod team in all of DWRP.

So they try to say hey, we see you're struggling to keep your heads above water and feeding us so much candy, but it would be ok for us to have less volume if we could have some more meat instead. And then they try to reassure that they really do need less by saying hey actually what we get now is almost too much.

And of course that opens the door for the mods to be like well then just don't eat it all! While they keep shoving low value junk food and don't change anything.

The most absurd line in their whole answer is that only six mod events per year would be very limiting FOR THEM and what THEY want to do.

1) They don't DO ANYTHING with the events or the setting and they haven't for at least the last year+. They can't even seem to remember half of what's in the setting most of the time, let alone what's been established in previous events. Nothing impactful can or will ever happen because they want (and have said they want) a completely static and unchanging setting in which characters can't do anything but react to the infrastructure. So what the fuck do they want to do that they would be so limited from??

2) Why are they so much more concerned about what THEY would like to do than what THEIR PLAYERS would like to do? People like to say "oh it's the mods' game" but if they didn't have players then they wouldn't be getting to do anything at all as mods. If they're worried about the healthy pace of the game, then they ought to be more concerned about whether they're just creating a critical mass of frustration and wearing down the very last traces of good will the players have for them, which amazingly does still exist despite their constantly hostile naysaying attitude.

3) Then they go on to say that fewer events would create more pressure because players would have higher expectations. I honestly cannot believe they flat out admitted this. They actually admitted that they don't want to have to deal with the pressure of writing more substantive and meaty events and that they WANT player expectations to be in the shitter because hey, you can't be surprised at being disappointed if you know you're ALWAYS disappointed, I guess?? That sure is a race to the bottom choice right there. But it circles right back to point 1, about what they supposedly "want to do" that they would be too "limited" from with only six events per year.

They want to do so much! For themselves, while keeping no pressure to do it, and no expectations that it will be any good, and no troublesome requests from pesky players who want them to do deliver on their promises, or who want to do stuff, which is all very pressuring for them, so go away. But don't worry guys, they're still really passionate about running this game!

oh my god just leave if you're this fucking mad about it. maybe "the stuff they want to do" IS low-impact stuff. and yeah, it IS their game, and what they want to do matters. if you want your voice to be the most important in the room, run your own game. and yeah, they're human, so if they don't want to feel pressured to do high-impact stuff all the time then they have that right, it's not a character flaw to know you have attitudes like this in your game and say "we don't want to put more work into meatier stuff and then just have you bitch when it's not what you wanted" because they know a lot of people are going to bitch no matter what.

this screed is exactly why we have trouble finding decent mods around here, because no one wants to deal with this attitude. the entitlement from you in this comment because the mods said they don't want to break their backs for more bitching is wild.

it is their game bro

if you don't like it and you're so resentful that you're willing to write a whole essay about it, maybe it's time for you to realise that this isn't the right game for you any more and you should drop

all i can think with bimonthly events is what happens when an event is uninteresting to you or useless to your character? now you're going three months without anything to do instead of one? agreed that if every event is perfect and amazing to you and then you're upset at not keeping up, that's your eyes being bigger than your stomach and no one else's problem.

so many people in that post blaming their own fomo on events. it's not up to mods to accommodate people with no self control and no follow through.

I'm laughing at the kink bingo prompt since it was mentioned in someone's plurk as a potential event for one of the businesses

sure it could be a coincidence but seems doubtful

Mermaid transformations were in the last player party plot before the event.

Re: DUPLICITY

the nightmare event was a rehash of a player plot from last year

God this place is turning in CDC 2.0 to read. Don't question the Mods!?!111!! They've done NOTHING wrong. We're just going to point fingers at random players in desperate need to the blame to be anyone BUT them. Quickly, everyone rip each other to shreds and distrust all your fellow players!!

Now they just need a plot that explodes in bad communication so much that the whole thing collapses under its own weight in the next three months.

so are the mods only looking at the dom/sub page once a month now? is that the speed we can expect on important game pages? they haven't even added all the new characters from the last app round ffs

i get that they're having a hard time but they're making more work for themselves at this point
