Nah, horror's easier to make a fun game out of, even if there are too many horror games. Exploration games almost always end up focusing more on getting to new places and describing how they look than making them interactive and interesting to engage with in a text-based medium.

and horror games always end up being a constant string of spoopy cut scenes or "look out for the next thing" events until you wonder why your character is bothered by anything anymore.

or maybe your investment in the game and its genre has something to do with it.

last horror game i was in, i couldn't count how many players were on plotting posts saying how not influenced by the horror aspects of the events their characters are. it really did get to be like pulling teeth trying to engage with horror when there are multiple characters acting cool as cucumbers and are being completely unaffected during spoopy events.

at least that's better than the people who app into horror games and just outright refuse to acknowledge it's a horror game. there's someone in penance that proudly talks about how they wont participate in any aspect of the game that's horror or remotely dark because they don't like horror. they only do slice of life things with their ship partner. id take a dozen cool cucumbers talking about how jaded they are to the darkness over people who ignore every plot, event, and even side plots in our cast because "i don't like horror"
