no dog in this race, but i felt overwhelmed reading the sotg post while it was public and i'm a rando. i can see the mods losing steam. i didn't get the sense that the problems were easily fixable at all, it felt like there were issues across the board. at which point, it almost doesn't even matter who's right and who's wrong, i can see the mods throwing the towel in. modding is already high effort, add in the bandwidth needed to make substantive changes and it might be more than they could juggle. sucks to have a game closed on you overnight, though

as a former mod, i didn't get overwhelmed reading them at all honestly. if it were me, i'd just a) make it clear going forward that any plots separating characters would have a pre-stated timeline and pre-approved effects, and b) balance the game more fairly.

but that would require a mod who cared about balancing the game fairly at all.

the mods are the ones who made their game high maintenance though.

yeah if you couldn't tell the game was gonna be high maintenance from the tl;dr info pages that's on you

it was still kind of a dick move to close the game, so suddenly but with quix at the helm it was just a matter of when, not if

knowing that quix was behind the game makes the tl;dr info posts make a lot of sense. It honestly feels that they'd be better off writing a novel than designing a dwrp game because all of their games have had a lot of info and worldbuilding and super long info pages....while nothing got done and people were driven away because nobody wants to read through six separate dw entries just to know how the damn game works.

a novel would also help them deal with the fact that they keep on making the same mistakes of "my character is super special and gets all the plot points." just put them in a nanowrimo, damn.

but writing a novel would not give Quix the instant gratification of everyone oohing and aahing over their character in the moment

lmao the best thing about those long info pages is even if you were a creative and engaged player who wanted to interact with the setting elements and do stuff with them, you'd be denied because of how hyper controlling quix is. you can use things, but ONLY in a specific way she approves of. if not, you'll be left on read or told to fuck off
