For the record I agree with that, the mod is just one person with a life, so I'm not saying that the mod needed to provide everyone with an event as intense as the Skully's Angels part.

I was and still am fine with the small group getting something more dedicated, it's more that the actual "event" for the rest of the game feels like a complete afterthought? It's just a beach with alcohol. There could've been some weird plants putting out atmospheric effects or the alcohol could have had side effects or the wildlife could've been actively hostile or something. Anything that doesn't require much mod interaction/oversight but still gives players something to do other than hang out in a slightly different setting.

one group sailed off the edge of the world and died

Well yeah, technically you could also drown and die or fall on a sharp stick and die if you really, really want your character to die. That group didn't discover anything or have any special effects beyond regular death. You can die, have a party, or get drunk any time you like when an event isn't going on and this event in particular actively discouraged death despite the fact that some characters still went for it.

I know what you're getting at with the whole it's what you make of it/make your own fun thing, and I'm not asking for anything super elaborate but it'd be nice to have something outside of the ordinary to do other than enjoy the scenery change.

Hell, even just leave them there for a week with not enough resources or something like that.

I'm looking at this event as more metaplot progression, which you can't expect to include all 70+ characters in the entire game as active participants. People are involved in Team Skulduggery that will disseminate the information they find, players can go from there. There's already an info share event planned for later in the month.

A main NPC showed back up. Events during the "boring" beach side of the event had a direct effect on said NPC. An avenue for a lot of new CR was opened between the never have I ever game and just general exploring.

I get it, I also want more events like the death game and zombie swarm but this one isn't a total wash or anything.

Honestly, all events being of the same intensity as the zombies and battle royale would lead to burnout for players and characters. There seems to be a pattern going right now of one really intense painful event, and then a bit of a breather (which still has room for plot discovery/investigation/CR building).

in fact the mod has reiterated several times now that the dioscuri making that sacrifice to jenny actually pretty sharply changed the course of the entire temple run mini plot, and that was something the dioscuri players had decided to do of their own volition way before anyone had any idea jenny was even showing back up

even lighter events like this can have impact, from cr building at the least to surprising tweaks to the metaplot at most, depending on how creative your characters may or may not decide to get

more mass-traumatizing events are sure to be coming down the pipeline in the meantime, but clearly they're not going to be rolling out all at once on a constant basis. agree with above anon that it doesn't need to be high-octane action all the time, anyway, and plenty of people have been making their own very productive fun even in a looser event like this

Events like this leave a lot of room for characters to build relationships that will make the high-octane events punch harder when they do come. I personally appreciate when a horror game knows how to let character (and players) breathe a little.

So the alcohol is just alcohol? So what? It obviously didn't need to be more for a bunch of characters to decide to get together and do something with it (aka the never have I ever game which has over 1000 comments to it). There is still something in the beach environment for the more investigative types to chew on, because the animals/plants are real and several characters have already noticed that. Not everything has to be that deep, but there are interesting implications to this beach outing even if they aren't being highlighted in neon for the less observant.

I'm glad not everyone was as disappointed as I was, then. I guess my main issue is that I find it very easy to do chill CR building when events aren't happening (people here are GREAT with open logs and neat group log ideas) and look forward to events as an opportunity to do something with all that CR that you couldn't do otherwise instead of just more of the same CR building. Everything here could have been accomplished with a player-run pool party (especially if you don't play an investigative type), and I'm glad some people had fun and were able to use it but I wish there was just a little bit more out of the ordinary to do.

Letting characters breathe is fine, I was just personally hoping for some light-hearted status effects or something instead of just a straight beach party. But maybe I'm alone in that, who knows.

"Everything here could have been accomplished with a player-run pool party" - well, no, nothing involving animals, from cooking fish to chasing butterflies to sacrificing a boar to the NPC could have been done in any other setting so far, for reasons that are relevant to plot. The Captain has talked about why none of his settings have animals before, so their presence in this setting is actually a pretty big deal.

So let the mod know! I’m sure that they can incorporate at least one area of effect kind of prompt quickly next time even if its just a sentence! Its a good idea and i’m glad you came forward with it even if i had fun as it was.

the mod knows, anon. they're not stupid. players shouldn't have to tell a game mod that tossing out a half assed party log with nothing to do is a boring concept for a game wide event.

i love wankgate for the constant reminders of why i should never mod again. saves me a lot of stress.

that's a good instinct. if you know you're not going to enjoy modding, don't be a mod. it's a 2 way street.

thanks for the affirmation. it's not laziness, it's instinct

Yeah, if I come up with some good feedback I'll leave it. I know the mod is only one person and don't mean to be hard on them, I've just been getting antsy for something that isn't purely SoL CR building (which I enjoy but have already done a lot of without much of anything else) and was left feeling disappointed because of that, but after reading the replies here I'm thinking most people were fine with what it had to offer so maybe it's just a me problem.

Re: OP

i agree with you, but i'm starting to think i just play the wrong type of character for this game. intellectual sleuth types seem to be the way to go, if you don't play one then you're kind of just stuck waiting around for something interesting to react to and some events don't really have that.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2022-09-19 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
i don't think that's true. there are plenty of characters in game who aren't intellectual sleuths who look like they're managing just fine.

i'm also not in the discord so that might have something to do with it? idk it just feels like unless your character is the type to ask the right questions of the NPCs (or of the characters who already know things) you're not going to get anywhere

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2022-09-21 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
have you tried?

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2022-09-22 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
idk about the rest of that, but we do have several well-established players who aren't on the discord at all and have run into plenty of plot bits anyhow? so im pretty sure discord-having isn't really the main issue tbh
