except for the zombies tore some people apart and three new characters drove a raft into the edge of oblivion. another guy exploded yesterday.

they couldn't have zombies tear them apart even if they were in game because sign ups for that closed on the first. and that's the only recent horror opportunity that hasn't required you to give your character the idiot ball so they can walk into obvious certain death that they've been warned against.

if you have to make your character lose all their brain cells to play horror then maybe the plot wasn't as conductive to horror as you think it is.

If you're in this game, you're an idiot with zero reading comprehension. If you're not in the game, you need to shut the fuck up about things you don't actually know.

Signups were only for "be there when shit went down." After that the portal opened up and a lot of people went to go rescue their CR from zombies. Plenty of people who were not signed up for that event were there and were involved.

No one was ICly warned against sailing off the edge of the world. We were told OOCly. Players decided their characters were going to try to escape, knowing that their characters would die. The characters did not know.

turns out no one in this game is creative, they just think coming up with pointless ways to die is good plot

battle royale was good plot (still had death but was also good). the private event last month was good. pirate jenny's event was good.

why were those events good

battle royale: great concept for an event with trauma and a clear goal given to characters, and everyone who wanted to participate could

pirate jenny: plot relevance, variable outcomes, made for interesting debate

the skully's angels adventure: plot relevance, a clear goal and event progression, narrative tension

i enjoyed the truth event and the zombie portion of the diner event too even if they weren't my favorites. they were fun enough.

recent events have been shifting towards one character or a handful of characters getting starring roles instead of including everyone, and the rest of the characters are left to meander and find their own things to do. it's not bad to ask players to be creative but some boundaries and general prompts can help get those creative juices flowing instead of being completely on your own.

this was most obvious in the beach event, and i understand why not everyone could participate in the main event, which is fine, but even a few interesting things on the beach (hostile creatures, status effects) could have given the rest of the group something to do that was different from the usual party fare. it's one thing to have a lot of optional parties, it's another when the month's event is also just a party. events, ideally, allow you to push your CR in different directions that the status quo wouldn't. being forced to kill your friend or team up with your enemy, for instance. forced confessions are good too, as are memory shares, anything that shakes things up a little and can put your character outside of their comfort zone. relying on players to make their own fun between events is fine, but with events it's nice to have some guidance.

So you know how we weren't explicitly spoonfed the fact that the diner event would end with zombies? That's probably what's going on with this October Halloween Party. Between the possessions going on and everyone getting costumes for the party, I'm half-expecting an "everyone turns into their costumes" twist.

The mod for this game has generally played things a little close to their chest with regard to what's really going on with events, giving tiny snippet hints that don't give a real indicator of event tone. You're assuming the worst case scenario, that the party's going to go off without a hitch, and I think there's no reason to do that, especially this far out, before the possessions start kicking in and shit.

This is Penbee's MO at multiple games now. They're a stealth wanker and I wouldn't wish them on any mod.

Refuse to meaningfully participate, whine that there's nothing to do, whine that they're overwhelmed if they have something to do, and attack the mod for not giving them exactly what they want while attempting to make it sound like valid criticism. Plus the sort of accurate but very misread accounts of what happened in the discord server reeks of someone close enough to hear about it but not actually there.

unfamiliar with penbee's history prior to this game but seconding that the complaining about things said on discord really blatantly reads like someone who either has shit reading/tone comprehension or heard about things secondhand through a dozen bias filters and cherry-picked quotes from someone who is on it

in fact it's pretty blatantly obvious this person isnt in the game discord currently at the very least (and anyone who is in the server rn could guess why lol). so they either dropped the game and lost access some time ago or have never been on it to begin with for sure

Explain what was good about the event where everybody was forced to kill each other, in particular how it differs from dying pointlessly

i think we should have an omegaverse event

i have no trouble coming up with things for my character to do and none of it involves dying.

interesting things or more boring slice of life

plenty of interesting things, a lot of my involvement came from exploring cr for opportunities. slice of life can actually develop into neat plots if you actually dig a bit deeper. it's not that hard to figure out if you're not boring.
