are there any legit artists in dwrp who advertise over plurk? i might give expanding there a shot, but this place makes it seem like plurk is so lousy with grifters and flakes that i wonder if it's possible to get any sort of traction in the first place.

i wouldn't be taking icon or bulk commissions because frankly i work slowly and hate having a queue. i make my actual income elsewhere, opening plurk commissions would be for funding my paids and keeping my portfolio fresh. still, idk if even that is worth it.

there are, i've commissioned several myself. they all got me the art that i paid for within a perfectly reasonable timeframe.

yes, i have gotten LA and illustrated icons as well as larger art pieces from excellent photoeditors and illustrators on plurk. when people post samples and they actually change from time to time (as opposed to the same work as an example for five years) or have a larger portfolio they're more likely to be reliable. i have yet to be scammed.

p sure a lot of people on wg don't rp anymore. this may be why the majority opinion here is out of touch a lot of the time and newbies are told that it's inaccurate that what wg thinks actually matters

yes, there definitely are and they get a fair number of commissions from advertising on plurk I think. I think as long as you're able to give an accurate timeframe and current samples of the sort of work you do, and aren't uh.... going full 'emergency commission :c if u don't give me money rn my dogs and fish and I will be starving and homeless'* followed by 'can't do commissions, mental health blah blah' you'll probably be fine.

*hashtag notallartists who take on emergency commissions, but that is the general vibe of a lot of the art grifters who count on your pity to not file a chargeback or refund for not doing the work they committed to doing

giant +1 to this as someone who used to take commissions in a very large fandom and was friends with a lot of artists

i'd say 95% of "emergency commissions" were basically holding out a hat because they wanted to go to a con or whatever, and then they'd complain about how they were underpaid and they don't like to do underpaid work, they have to work on their (nonexistent) "real" commissions/contract work, and ultimately they get $300 or whatever in exchange for a year's worth of whining and some passive-aggressively poor sketches, maybe, after that
