Had the best time there before things went pear-shaped.

I was only in it for a short period of time but DAMN it was fun! Never been in a game with factions like it before or since. And it's been a long time since we've had a straight up fantasy game in these parts anyway.

Though I'm glad I missed out on things like the mod who was such a control freak that they gave a character a curse that was technically breakable and just supposed to be a temporary plot, but there was an extremely difficult solution to break it. But it ended up with the player begging other players to help them break it when it had been something like six months and the mod was still not budging and just going "tough shit" when the player asked if it could end because it was clearly no longer fun to play out and the requirements were proving to be just too hard to fulfill.

what happened to each anyway? i vaguely remember the mods being control freaks, but i'm blanking on the rest

would it be rpf/celeb if i played a musician's stage persona fucking nasty? on a gut level it feels like yes, but on the other hand i can't quite put my finger on the exact dividing line between angus mcfife vs jean-luc picard. theyre both artificial, fictional characters being played by a performer, and closely identified with that performer.

Not quite an old dead game, but an old game: I would bring Milliways back at its peak activity, but with apps actually done monthly and with a playerbase that was less high school in the cool kids vs other people. Basically I want the game activity more like then but the playerbase more like the ones I see around now tend to be now. I think they due process apps monthly now instead of every four or something, but the game is a ghost town and I'd love to feel like joining it again would be worth it.

this might be ancient residual brainrot from having been in the EDM fandom (listen. i know) shipping musicians on tumblr when i was way younger, but i would say if the persona is clearly enough defined then it's not rpf and more akin to playing from a live action canon -- but then idk how i'd describe what constitutes "clearly enough defined" to me, it's one of those "i know it when i see it" type things. daft punk feels like a good example: the "lore" is that they got turned into robots after a freak accident or something, and they always perform with their helmets on, so there is a fairly clean dividing line between the personas and the actual humans behind them, and i feel like it wouldn't really be rpf to rp as the robots

take my opinion with a grain of salt tho because i personally am not bothered by rpf even of the "actual human people, not just stage personas" variety; i don't write it myself and i do think it's a little unusual, but i don't find it morally reprehensible or emotionally repulsive, so there's that

yeah, i feel like something like daft punk or ghost would be fine, where it's very clear that the musicians are playing fictional roles rather than themselves on stage.

on the one hand, you're right.

on the other, rent is at an all time high, our economy is at an unprecedented level of badness, and people in the creative industries are getting hit the worst due to AI and the death of art. you could be a little more compassionate.

I know people have been predicting dup's closing on and off for years now, but with golden peacock the new sexy game place to be..how long do we think dup has left in it? Or does GP implode in drama first and dup becomes the sex game cockroach that survives nuclear war?

yeah, I don't know that it's had a big drama in it lately so I'm not sure it's at real risk, I just wonder how many people may do something like choose GP over it when looking for places to be instead - even with the cap GP has. And dup mods being notorious for not letting anything really shake up the game
