If it was something like one of Emilie Autumn's personas, I wouldn't mind it, because Emilie Autumn the real person who sings the songs is clearly not Emilie Autumn the character who was locked up in a Victorian insane asylum or Emilie Autumn the faerie. Basically, the more divorced from reality the persona is and more developed the storyline is behind that persona, the more they seem like a fictional character rather than just the performer getting on stage and dressing up in a fancy costume.

i do think both you and anon are kind of right, because you do see stuff like this in dwrp more than some other hobbies, but that's not because dwrp is uniquely awful like op thinks. it's because dwrp is intertwined with a specific social medium platform (plurk), and commissions and gofundmes and ads to sell you other shit are just a part of modern social media. facebook has people advertising mlms, plurk has gofundmes and emergency conms, and twitter has all of that plus links to viral users' shitty soundcloud rap and favorite vibrators.

now if people used plurk strictly for rp that would be different, but plurk is a personal blog for most rpers which means dealing with off-topic social media bullshit. if you're just on plurk to rp and not socialize, the best thing you can do is keep your plurk strictly to the people you rp with the most and disable replurks

mentioning it because i didn't realize it was an option for the longest time: you can turn off seeing replurks, which should help dial down a lot of the white noise on your timeline, if you're getting particularly overrun. it'll kill all replurks, though, but you could also take the slightly more time-consuming route of banning every new art plurk you see.

ideally you won't get fartdog's alt harassing you about being blocked in completely unrelated plurks, but that's a risk we all run

blocking anyone who's being replurked that you don't want to see helps a lot. someone once told me they block mod plurk accounts for games they're not interested in to cut down on replurks they don't care about.
