i'm a very spontaneous rper too, but i always try to at least offer ideas for the initial set-up. like "oh our characters could come across a cake in the rain and we'll see what happens from there!" etc.

Oh yeah, a set up/start I'm willing to offer ideas but I'm horrid at plotting beyond that/actually following through if it's over plotted.

If that makes sense.

also me. i'm very fly by the seat of my pants with rp, and beyond the initial 'i want these chars to meet and i'd be okay with it being shippy/want it just gen' that's all the input i want in terms of where the thread goes. without fail, every player that i've wound up extensively working lines out with winds up bailing, because their serotonin's been hit by just the thought of it and they've already mind-nutted and can't get it up to write anymore. so i'm left there with rp blue balls, wanting the cr to go somewhere it never will because my 'partner' can't be assed to write.

I'm not sure that makes this okay though. Maybe for a couple of days but not long term.

They want to wing it and only care enough about plotting to the level of "hey let's have cr" and see what happens.

I think when people say they hate plotting things beforehand they have this idea that plotting is a start to finish thing where you hash out all the details, and it turns them off it and go the opposite direction of having 0 plans instead.

The people I see who are proactive about plotting and follow through tend to just make simple cr prompts instead, like "let them both meet at the chicken coop get chased by a dragon" and then wing it from there. Otherwise, they prefer that one of you have an open post for interaction instead of specific plans.

it's the only valid logic i can use, because i've come across a lot of people that will plurk and discord and giggle over what X and Y will do and tee hee, they'll do this and X'll be so mad and Y will have to do this to make it up and (extensive scenario that needs to be played to the letter otherwise conniptions happen) and yet when it comes time to playing it, i'm either nudging them asking for a starter and being told soon soon soon, or i take the initiative, write a starter, and get the same soon soon soon on a reply until a new brain worm hits them and omg you know what would be amazing? if Y did this and X lost their shit. cue another scenario they're probably going to sleep thinking about until it loses all appeal to them to play out.

i want these people to get off the site designed for roleplaying and to go to ao3 or open up a word document and write out their dream to their heart's content. post it. get all the serotonin hits from people loving how you played X and Y and how cute/angry/angsty/hot they are together. do that. please. but for the love of all that's holy, stop dangling ideas in front of me that you have zero intention of playing, either through lack of time to follow through with because you have rl obligations that i understand, but you're still dangling at me, or because it HAS to be a certain way in your head and when i, your rp partner, play it the way i read the characters, it's like my rp dick slipped and went in the wrong hole and now it's over for you. you're turned off. you're done. you're no longer in the mood.

until a new idea tickles you and you dangle that.

i'm too old to keep playing that game. i would rather put up with mediocre tags that allow me to have a thread follow along with someone than to have the best idea put before me that i know, without fail, i'm not going to get to play. i've stopped playing with those people, because they fail to recognize that they aren't playing. they're plot whores. they get hot and wet for a good idea and they will go all in on talking about it, but as soon as it's time to play, they have a headache.

you are not my significant other. it's not cheating if i go get my rp nut somewhere else. go away.

i dont do it anymore but when i did: worry that if i suggested something that someone wasn't excited over, they'd assume that was the only thing i wanted to play and thus would lose all interest in threading with me.

i'm like you op, i find it really frustrating when someone won't meet me in the middle and give me some ideas from their side of things, so i'm the one that has to comb through character pages and wikis to figure something out. i don't need to pre-plan a thread from start to end, but i don't really enjoy "idk our characters are both at denny's and stuff happens" threads, they're just not fun. give me SOMETHING to work with here.

No, because I like the monster stuff when it happens. But it’s fair to complain about all the shipping. That’s not the point of this game. Why isn’t focus more on action, why do we have to have kissy prompts where they don’t fit? It’s stupid.
