that said in HSR they switch up which protagonists is in the new trailers so both get plenty of airtime.

but the option to play as her is still a part of the game, so i think that’s canon enough for rp purposes. it’s like any other game with branching paths, just because route A is treated as the correct path by official material doesn’t mean you can’t app from route B.

in mmo rp it's common to make ocs to rp who have nothing to do with the main story, and highly uncommon, and frowned upon, to rp the main character.

"feel free to imagine whatever you want" still doesn't make something definitively canon, though. in a psl it's fine, but suppose you, a mod, let in Protag and Love Interest, obviously friends, who've decided that their headcanon is their characters got married at some point - something not supported by canon, though they could say it's not denied, either. you figure it only affects them and allow it. later, Love Interest gets swept in activity check, but Protag sticks around. a new player of the other character apps in.

i don't even need to explain how this is awkward at best and potentially godmoding at worst. if they'd developed that relationship more and gotten married after joining, that'd just be something the new player could ignore; but it's weirder if someone else's unsupported headcanon now contradicts their own characterization.

this is something that the mods of one large game asked a wol to change in their history, and for good reason.

eh, i don't really see how that's any different from a case of a canon that has multiple routes/paths. like if someone apps the mc from persona 5 from a route where they maxed ann's social link and decided to date her, that doesn't mean they can just go straight for a new ann if the previous player they had been shipping with dropped.

Why is it always the people who never do their tags that throw themselves headfirst into plotting, spam the discord, and force themselves into a major role the moment a plot opportunity comes up?

(I know why, it's because half of them refuse to accept that they don't have the bandwidth to lead a plot and are desperately hoping that this will kick them back into high gear but buddy, you barely made AC last month, focus on that before chasing plot threads.)

it’s more common to play OCs from the setting than the protagonist role the game puts the player in. it avoids the whole spider-man pointing at spider-man meme, and because of that it was considered gauche to play a actual warrior of light.

as a aside, i don’t think it’s a problem playing a wol in dwrp - it’s a lot easier if you’re playing with someone who’s canon blind or just somewhat familiar if you kind of have a storyline and history on hand. it’s very different in ffxiv because if someone is playing the game then they’re already invested in the world and probably are very familiar with the setting, so they’re able to create more elaborate backgrounds like Upchuck McGee from the street corner who is actually a secret lab test experiment that escaped, a surly magician that performs unauthorized autopsies in the name of research and disguises their activities with a taxidermy shop, and so on. or it could be just as something as simple as “stupid man who is loud and likes to punch things” and participate in fight tournaments.

the mod also just banned the king of neckbeard mountain so i think it's safe to say they're responding to player concerns and keeping an eye on the situation
