God I hope not. It wasn't good for them.

well when you realize people have been screeching on tumblr for a decade straight about how problematic or abusive some character is, you can see why the devs came to that conclusion.

It's always a male character too. Usually a "teehee I know he's so gross" by a mun who sounds insecure and wants you to know that they know the guy is ~problematic~. Just don't put him on those memes period, instead of making coy "but what would you want to tho" on a "fuck my character" meme.

Yup, the way they play all their characters feels the same. If it's a man, he's a Chad with a harem the ladies can't resist, and if it's a woman, it's blushing uwu tradwife. Even when it makes no sense for the characters they pick up.

I'm aware no character in shounen or gacha has a confirmed sexuality, but it is funny how they apply this generic het characterization to both male and female characters who have a lot of gay subtext. You don't have to ship the ships, but it adds to the ooc when these same characters become womanizers or tradwives when it makes no sense for their canon selves because this mun keeps playing them through the generic m/f beam.

See, I find that weird if I was a cast member. Canon OCS acting too familiar without prior communication is already weird, but your OC is literally a character from another canon that you pretend is a canon OC? It feels like something that should be kept on a forum.

why didn't you guys start off with these deets tho

it's one thing to assume someone might be a dude based off of the way they play female characters being skeevy and another to assume it because they don't want to play a popular m/m ship, which was more how this conversation read up to this point

but yeah now that i know which player this is about, i will agree that there's something off about the way they play female characters. they play a few characters from my canon extremely skeevily, but they always gave off the impression they were a woman with a huge rape fetish to me

(Anonymous) 2024-11-09 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
the vast majority of dwrp exclusively decides their ships based on what they personally find hot, not what's ic for the characters

hope this helps

genuinely thank you anon

Believe it or not, most of us wouldn’t pick up a character whose entire arc in their first movie is overcoming their shyness about talking to a cute boy and play them as f/f only.

the more people bitched about stsg's popularity and tried to separate them, the more gege doubled down on gojo's geto complex. "i need to catch up to him" being one of his last lines in canon was pretty crazy work lmfao. japanese fans have also discussed gege's interest in an obscure BL manga he's namedropped and how it seems to have inspired stsg, so...the shippers may be loud and annoying, but at least they're usually right and have a pretty decent grasp on the characters.

What canon is this

I have no idea about this canon but you and it sound insufferable

like no one has to ship it or like it very much (i don't), but stsg is so laden with romantic themes and tropes. they both die on the most romantic year in japan one year apart! geto leaves him his school uniform button, a common sign of confessing at graduation, and gojo squeezes it until his hand bleeds! he says an unheard but meaningful last sentence that translates into three english words! also the entire lyrics of op3, explicitly written from gojo's perspective:

"It's like a quiet love
In the summer-like colors running down my cheeks
The words that curse you are stuck in the back of my throat"

there are a lot of shonen ships where it's clearly fans reading way too much into the text, and even if i joke about how naruto and sasuke, for example, make a lot more sense if read as toxic yaoi as opposed to just friends, i don't really believe that was kishimoto's intent. i 100% do believe that gege knew exactly what he was doing with satosugu, though, and pretending they're just friends is dismissing a lot of not just subtext but actual text.

even if all that is true, which I believe wholeheartedly it is? nobody has to play canon. we have never, will never, and should never enforce that. so if this guy wants to play m/f away from the hair's-breadth-from-canon m/m ship, sincerely, who cares? just skip over them if you don't like their takes.

i wholeheartedly agree and i'm the anon that said in the first place that whoever that geto player is is allowed to do what he wants and he doesn't care.

i just think it's funny, specifically because i think it's funny how outrageously gay gojo and geto are. that's it. it's over the top and i like talking about it because of it.

is "they both die on the most romantic year in japan one year apart" a typo and you meant the most romantic time of year?

canonblind but this was the only part of your reply i didn't understand, so i'm just curious

that's what i thought. they have completely different psychoses

i want to try reading jjk fics but when one half of the big ship is dead for all of canon it's hard to figure out what people would write about without making everything an AU. can someone explain what the general fic content is?

+1

(Anonymous) 2024-11-10 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
you can just mash your barbies together i don't need a dissertation about how they're so canon because of some obscure lore or whatever.

yeah i was typing too fast and i fucked it up

they both died on christmas eve which is often treated as culturally equivalent to valentine's day in japan

(Anonymous) 2024-11-10 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
i don't think anybody really did that with dragon age though? there might've been some fringe discourse about iron bull, but almost all the characters in inquisition were "problematic" in some way or another, and that was a pointed thing in the writing that got a lot of praise in reviews (as well as on tumblr).

ah, gotcha

yeah, i'm well aware of the cultural connotations of all the things you listed. this was actually really interesting to learn, since i'm used to people overstating how canon m/m shonen ships actually are, so thanks for taking the time to type it up
