I stopped interacting or talking about my canon to fellow fans except my close friend and I have enjoyed it far more than when I talked to castmates. Turns out having mutual interests don't always make for a great experience.

the creator sucks, the fandom is old and entrenched in its tropes, and they take themselves way too seriously.
