I feel like this is an issue of telling instead of showing. I tend to feel cringe using the canon lingo anyway so id say something like "naruto clenches his fist, gathering a vortex of razor-sharp energy in his palm" which gets the "spinning thing that will fuck you up" across a lot more clearly than "naruto channels his chakras into his rasengan"

you're 100% on the money. even among castmates, showing not telling helps because while the spell name is a handy shorthand, illustrating how it's cast tells you if the character is overpowering it or trolling, whether they're coming from a place of anger or strategy, using up their last resources or good to carry on.
