This shit makes it harder for people to use standard pronouns and it's unrealistic to expect everyone to remember made up pronouns.

Exactly. That they unironically believe recruiters will not throw out applications with nonsense like this means they are in for a rude awakening.

yeah. it's been a struggle getting people in my professional life to even use they/them for me, and i'm misgendered on a daily basis by people i've worked with for a decade. and after the latest uwuself applicant my boss acted like my preferred gender neutral pronouns are as nonsensical as shit like that.

i will happily use he, she, and they. anything else requires me to memorize some weird nonstandard pronoun for someone in a way English doesn't typically work and that's my line in the sand.

I default to they actually since it's just easiest.

same... i mean if they put it on their zoom name then i'll use whatever pronoun they have, including It, but if they don't i am defaulting to they because if you want a specific thing for people to remember all the time you better make it easy to adjust and accept that they'll fuck up often.

look i think anyone who calls themselves uwuself or whatever is just insane. it's like the people who think they legitimately are sasuke Uchiha reborn. i am not entertaining nonsense.

if you don't wanna be he and she you get they. anything else is just stupidity.

maybe in the distant future where they aren't trying to genocide trans and gnc people across the world we can revisit this but for now anyone that tries to make this happen off of tumblr is actively harming themselves and other people. we are struggling to get normies on board with using preferred names and preferred pronouns, this just gives them ammunition when they try to claim it's mental illness for all of us because it sure looks like mental illness to walk into a job and say your pronouns are uwu/uwuself

this is very true. i feel like in most imperialist western countries, this argument gets quickly shut down, but in reality, outside of those countries, we're out here advocating for basic rights still. there needs to be a sense of priority.

nothing wrong with neo-pronouns, but it's evolving a movement that hasn't even been generally accepted yet. a lot of privileged people don't know how advocacy works, it takes certain steps.

not hating on neo-pronouns but they don't have a place in advocacy yet. and prob won't for a long time...

genuinely do not understand the point of neo pronouns because “they” is already gender neutral. i kind of get the x set since it is a recognizable gender but then there’s the faeself neo pronouns which make me side eye because it sounds like they’re claiming to be fae, which makes me think they’re otherkin trying to still legitimize themselves.

tbh my main issue with neopronouns is i can understand the argument against 'they' as a pronoun since it is too general, but i can't understand the need for overly specific fae/faeself/uwuself kind of pronouns just because you're not on the same particular nb spectrum as this other nb, especially if it's something that changes on a whim for some people. Like just trying to get people to accept transwomen as women is hard enough, if you include having to remember if the person identifies as 'she/xie/zher/etc" only to find out they switched pronouns three months later will make people even more resistent especially if they're just some rando they don't care about. It is even worse if that person then gets mad that people get it wrong, because now it falls into the level of demanding and entitled instead of advocacy.

It doesn't help that some people insist on pronouns like 'It' which is connected to non-living things for the average person so it sounds dehumanizing, and it starts to seep into being less about gender identity and more about whether or not they even identity as human in the first place.

the average person is not going to remember unique neopronouns for every single individual beyond a single conversation, if that. we only have so much memory for recall and i cannot afford bandwidth for fae/faeself people who just want to feel special.

a single individual i have known for maybe 6 months is different, but i am not going to give every random smuck those braincells.

listen i'm a crusty older millennial that also rolls my eyes when neopronouns and shit like that comes up, but we need to not act like people using that as an excuse to be transphobic are somehow less to blame than the people just innocently if cringe-ly using neopronouns are. if your boss is being shitty and transphobic about they/them because they're conflating it with neopronouns, that's your boss's damage and no fault of some goofy tumblr uwuself kid

respectability politics is a fool's errand. if the last decade has taught us anything, it's that there's no level of wholesome socially acceptable gay that will actually save us when the christo-fascists are taking the wheel and putting us against the wall, and that holds for any minority group.
