it's still not fine on tumblr. making up totally incoherent ways to refer to yourself and then demanding everyone comply annoying in any context. those things aren't about identification they're about being annoying and attention-seeking and people who do it should go sit in the basement with the rabies pride people and not speak to others.

i first encountered it in the wild on a blog for someone self-diagnosed with DID and each personality is a different fictional character they kin. they also use a different set of tumblr style neopronouns for each personality.

sorry to say this has existed long before tumblr was a thing. the "final fantasy 7 house" pre-dates tumblr and was probably one of the worst cases of that i have ever seen.

fair point. i love tumblr but i can't deny the level of insanity that exists there and just tend to ignore those people. i have no respect for the "kin" who are convinced they have fictional characters literally living in their heads.

it has always been people trying to make themselves feel more special than the average person and also justifying their bad behavior as 'it's what [x] would do'. teenagers have been claiming to be vampires, aliens, angels and demons for decades. you get snapewives and astral plane marriages from the same people.

japan calls it chuunibyou because people are supposed to grow out of it.
