it tracks tbf. meme rp is considered by many to be the place you go when you're not active enough to keep up with games (which are already fairly slow in themselves rip)

which is all good and well, but it means that you gotta expect most of the strong writers to be very slow, which is a pain for those maining memes for tags

personally i offset the drag by having a bunch of different slowbies in my inbox so that i still end up having tags spread out nearly daily, but it's taken a lot of time and tagging-around work to cultivate this

games are so slow... i've found faster and more talented rp partners on memes. it's kinda weird, i feel like there are different demographics... some ppl don't have the patience for games and would rather boom one on one with ppl they meet on memes in psls.

honest curiosity: how long did it take for you to find these faster players on memes, and did you tag out to them or them to you? popular canons or nah? also, do yall start things out mainly on texting memes and just build the chemistry from there, or something else?

many anons mention struggling to find faster rp on memes. am wondering if there's some common points that could be used to help with this maybe

- tagged out a lot until something sticks
- both popular and obscure, though to be fair obscure canons need more work but not as much work as others claim
- texting memes to get a feel for the other players, then migrate to psls or museboxes

consistency in tagging is key, most players in my experience will match a fast pace if you've got a good thread going

it depends on what you're after anon! it's easier if you're shipping.

texting memes are great because you can see if your sense of humor fits. if someone is funny and engages you via. a regular text thread, and your rp chemistry is good, you'll probably engage well in longer threads.

i tag out mostly, but the best threads have come from people who have dm'd me to ask, or like i said, from just texting stuff.

speed depends on a lot of things. i'll make time for things despite busy days if they're really interesting? i think it's the same for others.

another da:

i get good threads from memes (and psl ads) easily, but the key is to look for people who state their prefs. someone who actually says what they're looking for is someone who wants threads, not just someone who's kind of shrugging and trying to get a little dopamine between game tags. from experience, a combination of no info post/empty toplevel (or toplevel with very little useful information) is someone who's pretty likely to ghost - and imo, this includes people who have an info post that's specific to a game. usually, people looking for psls will have an info post directed at anyone who might want to thread with them, and it'll include ships or dynamics they like, what crosscanon they might prefer, etc.

i personally don't bother with texting memes because i don't like action spam and really only want to rp with people who like meatier tags, so i just tag out on memes with a built-in premise.

it's the pressure for me. i found myself stressing over ac because i don't like to stretch myself thin on cr and take on too many threads, but that leaves me sometimes with people that are also doing the same thing or who put me at the bottom of their cr to tag and i wound up having to nudge or beg for tags, even with threads started at the beginning of the ac period.

too much crap for a hobby. that, and i don't like feeling like i have to tag someone/a canon/character i don't want to because it comes off as rude when you're in a game, but not on memes. i like my own pace. sometimes i'll throw out 100 tags in a night on memes and psls, and i have longterm psls with the same cr that we sometimes branch off of and do aus for. games stopped being fun for me awhile ago and while yes, memes have slowed down quite a bit, i still have no desire to join a game again, if only because i don't want my play to feel like work.

ooh big agree, it's the pressure and the expectation to thread with whoever tags you/gets thrown in with you during events that burned me out too

i'm plenty active tagging threads and characters i'm actually excited about, but in games the chances are higher not every thread's going to be fun for you. whether it's obligatory intro stuff or plot-sensitive bridging interactions or whatever, sometimes you just need to tag things for the sake of getting from one cr step stone to the next

combine that with a monthly ac hinging equally on your partners, and an expectation to always keep up and comment on what your cr's doing, and in repetition it all gets very tiring

at least with memes and psls i can pick and choose who i rp with, run any plot or ship i want with only the approval of the other player to worry about, and tag at my leisure. if i wanna take a two-week siesta from writing entirely, i can do that anytime and i only have to worry about notifying my handful of rp partners, as opposed to inconveniencing a web of game cr and/or missing and having to handwave through a big event

so much less stress. the community feel of a game is nice, but ultimately isn't worth the energy invested anymore for me
