i feel like part of the disconnect here is that clearly some people are using "into" to mean "things that i would personally enjoy doing/like" as opposed to "things that i find theoretically compelling/interesting"

i'm not "into" smoking because my parents were smokers and it's a nasty habit and gross and i'd rather die than put a cigarette between my lips

i'm "into" smoking because unfortunately society and media has programmed me to think it looks cool and stylish sometimes and leads to interesting character moments

i'd imagine a lot of the stupid discourse here is related to a similar disconnect
