jesus the fucking gall to not only directly ping people into GFM plurks but then when that one person paid the whole sum for their car repairs to just hit them with a "thank you." and nothing more? are you serious? i am sorry for the fact that she and her family lost their house, genuinely, that must be insanely stressful and i don't wish it on anyone, but jesus christ who treats their friends this way

the few times i've had to borrow cash from a friend or family, i've been insanely grateful and paid them back in like two weeks tops. like i understand how difficult it is to be in such tight positions, but we aren't entitled to the help of our community or loved ones. to just drag someone into the PUBLIC plurk, demand money for anything and everything? the gall.

and not a single please in that car plurk. jesus the entitlement.

right? i have had to ask my parents for money recently because i'm in a tight spot because of my spouse's health, and they had no problem helping me because i'm lucky enough that they both 1. care about me and 2. can afford it, and i still thanked them a bunch of times and made a detailed plan for how and when i'm going to repay them (it's a big chunk of cash for my disabled ass, hence the plan, otherwise i'd pay them back as soon as i could) and not for a fucking second did i forget how lucky i am. like, okay, maybe this person thanked that friend profusely in private, who knows (i don't imagine so, but it's not impossible), but even then, i just can't get over them not saying please even once. i'm not saying poor people need to beg politely to earn the right to be helped or whatever, but come the fuck on, man

the kicker is that landlords do not want to have to evict someone unless it is absolutely necessary because the entire process is a pain in the ass and it's not at all easy to do.

so getting evicted means you haven't been able to pay your rent for an extended period of time AND you haven't been able to work out a payment plan. most landlords would be happy to take a payment plan to avoid having to go through eviction proceedings if you could actually honor the payment plan and keep up on it.

but if you're getting kicked out? that means you have been severely delinquent on rent for a very long time and you can't even manage a payment plan. that's not a good sign, dude.

this isn't necessarily true if it's a corporate-owned place that has automatic systems that kick in and a lawyer retained, tbf

i once rented a place where if i forgot to pay the rent by exactly four days i'd get a letter that basically said "here's your late fee, if you don't pay up in however many days you will be evicted" with no human contact

no idea what their situation is but in places where the rental supply is extremely low they can not only afford to deal with the pain in the ass but also raise the rent for the next tenants

sa: and it looks like they're in texas, which is not exactly known for protecting people from predatory anything

tl;dr their response to receiving free money is eyebrow-raising but depending on where you live the rent really do be too damn high

waggles hand

depends on how much they can increase cost of rent for the next guy
