I think in this case it was the meme poster assuming rpa's example talk of dinosaur island meant people wanted to play in dinosaur island.

1. i don't want to put in the effort to do a tdm quality top level and be ignored. at least on a game tdm you have a reasonable chance of getting tagged by other newbies. on bakerstreet you're much more likely to get nothing.

2. tagging on a game tdm usually means tagging with people i know rather than random players on bakerstreet. if i'm going to go to the effort of writing a top level, i would rather play with friends.

3. that meme barely has any prompts. it's literally just "there's an island and dinosaurs good luck". there's nothing to draw me in or give me a reason to post.

If you watch literally anything about new romance books it pops up en masse, this isn’t complicated stuff anon

this fascinates me as someone who was never into homestuck and only witnessed it secondhand as a weird, huge phenomenon

what was so bad about the ending and creative team that they killed something that big

the coding of that meme is really hard for me to read. so i clicked out after clicking in because i didn't care enough to copy and paste it to notepad to try to parse it.

i was neutral on the ending, but the epilogues felt like they really did not like the fans at all and were so unenjoyable i just completely lost interest in the series. i haven't read hs2. none of the characters felt like the versions i had liked in the comics and both sides felt like misery porn more than plot to me.

you're on a glorified slam page where socially stunted adult babies go to anonymously bitch about each other in a hobby about smashing imagining Barbies together

i don't know what you were expecting, honestly

I like the idea of more "tdm style" memes but this one is lame because dinosaur island is boring

(Anonymous) 2025-04-28 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Actual rp related question: do you judge based on usernames and what’s your personal preference when you make a new journal

Positive or negative feelings towards slick one word ones like “jumps/phasers/counterattack” etc or long ones, underscores, puns, whatever. Or judging writing skill or how many tags they actually do

Re: https://bakerstreet.dreamwidth.org/10841649.html?mode=reply

(Anonymous) 2025-04-28 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
some of that for me, but also just, unlike tdms, there's no push for people to actually involve each other. your character comes across a dinosaur after crawling out of an egg. are they naked? do they have stuff? powers? where are they supposed to be going? what are they supposed to be doing? just squatting in a cave and trying not to get eaten? tdms have generally a push to incite a mingle. if i'm posting a top level in a meme like this, if it was a tdm, i'd pick a few options and write a huge starter.

so either they want you to write starters and have people comment to you, like a tdm, or you throw up a blank top level and people just throw 'they found you in a tar pit' or w/e.

this discussion is making me think up a meme idea, though. so there's that.

i don't judge cause i only care about my own usernames. i like 1-2 words or sleek puns

i have a preference for the username to not exceed the length of the icon on the profile page

yeah i'm the same and this has always been a struggle for me with memes and how i always wished they were a little meatier like tdms

would love to see what you're cooking if you find a way to do this better, anon!

(Anonymous) 2025-04-28 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
i am picky about my own usernames being a single word and relevant to the character. i can't use underscores in my own usernames and i need to come up with something more than using a random adverb (i don't judge anyone that does, this criteria is for myself).

the only time i mildly judge other usernames is if there are multiple underscores because someone used a whole phrase because it usually suggests they put 0 thought into it at all and isn't a great sign in a writing hobby

(Anonymous) 2025-04-28 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
ok i just left Bakerstreet

i do judge those usernames with superfluous Xs

not this one in particular, but i was thinking of something like the predators movie with adrien brody, where people/creatures are shipped in via parachute crates and it's a free for all. it'll probably take me forever to make it, because i'm not the best with filling out ideas, just coming up with them. if anyone wants to do better, go ahead. (plus, my version wouldn't have pretty coding because i can't code for shit).

Character development

(Anonymous) 2025-04-28 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I judge if it's with a bunch of x's like above anon said, or underscores. It just looks so messy and careless.

I wouldn't have a problem with anyone else having one like this, but I'm also irrationally bothered by my own main's username because it's two words together (no underscores, no x's, but just smushed together). I picked it really quickly to strike while the iron was hot when I saw an ad I was interested in and it kills me every day.

because i go to bs for smut. i get my fill of gen from my games so i gotta get my filth fix somewhere.

(Anonymous) 2025-04-28 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
personally i never use underscores and/or more than three words in a username bc it just looks bulky and clunky to me, which also means i try to keep it to one or two words max. or a very short phrase that's a play/mashing of a canon concept

puns are peak and seeing punny journals in passing makes me wildly envious every time bc i can never think up any fun puns for a new character myself

otherwise idc what anyone else is using if they're tagging into me so long as the writing's decent. tagging out...the only journals i avoid purely based on uns are ones with extraneous x's in them, which indicate to me that they're maybe migrants from other platforms who haven't really read around the dwrp community enough to pick up the norms (but, again, if they tag me and can write out of a paper bag then w/e i'll play ball for a bit sure)

oh, also: usernames that are literally just the character's name...i don't see them as often nowadays but i used to. and i'd be a little leery of tagging out to these for the sheer fact that a un that completely uninspired probably isn't pointing to a very creative player either (aka im gonna have to carry the progress of the entire thread on my back)
