the fact that it's inspiring stupid people to come an harass someone based false accusations of being someone else, flying in the fact of it being wrong. just a start.

or are you stupid enough to think this person is mike, who's never done identity dodging before and even then the 'evidence' is based completely on the fact that they both happen to play the same character.

Dragging an unrelated RPer (Dy/JD) into Mike wank because they share one character, a character which Mike hasn't even touched in a good long while. Anon already fouled up ATP with it and got anonymous comments turned off.

Then the same anon started stinking up the Mike namedrop thread about the player. Some of their friends got defensive and suddenly the whole whiteknight thing comes up, and now this.

Though saner heads are prevailing since I first reported it, it's still gross as all hell that this has snowballed onto someone who's otherwise under-the-radar and only got targeted because of a comment offering their characters on ATP.

i think i know where you're coming from. the whole "other innocent people get namedropped here and we don't delete those and the stupid can sort itself out" kind of situation. which i would normally agree with, but this has caused people to come directly to the person in question and harass them about being mike. that sounds like a good reason to at least not allow it to be perpetuated in a situation you can control.

So let me make sure I understand this since it's 4am and I just got done with an eight hour drive. This JD guy is accused of being Mike on ATP. Shit hits the fan due to the accusation, but it later comes out that he's not actually mike. People point this out and that it was dumb to accuse him of being mike.

Being accused of being mike isn't considered harassment in my book. I cannot be held responsible for actions that occur outside of this comm. If there is legitimate harassment occuring on the comm then I will delete it, but as I understand the current situation it isn't harassment.

In this case, leaving the scraps up (mostly the ones in the Mike namedrop thread) are perpetuating further harassment out of the comm, so deleting at least those may stem it before it gets any further.

As for the other thread, it exists to try and paint a bullseye on someone who is being wanked on for a nonexistent connection to Mike.

I know you can't do anything about what happens outside of wankgate, but addressing the issue directly might help keep more shit from happening outside of wankgate.

the fact that people are going to JD personally with this stuff is pretty bad.

people aren't asking him to stop what's going on outside the space he controls, but it doesn't take a genius to connect the dots back to WG and he's got to make sure nothing happens that gets us shut down.

Me and the co-mods have been actively working to delete the actual harassment shit like saying that JD needs to pay or whatever stupid shit that's been posted. Claiming that someone is Mike is not actually harassment in my book, and if somebody acts on that outside of wankgate then it's not my concern.

though, I should probably point out that the line drawn between someone saying "this person needs to pay" and then actually doing it (because let's be real, that's what is happening here) is kind of arbitrary. You may as well leave it all up.

Except it's not as arbitrary as you might think it is. It's a direct call to take action against someone. The call to action is something I take seriously, especially when it relates to harassment. I mean if I don't draw the line there then where do I draw it? When they actually start plotting out how to take their 'revengence'?
